Isolation of Guttiferones from Renewable Parts of Symphonia globulifera by Centrifugal Partition Chromatography

Planta Medica, 2015
The aim of this study was to investigate the species Symphonia globulifera, a source of polycyclic polyprenylated acyl phloroglucinols such as guttiferone A, which is known to exhibit a variety of biological activities including noticeable antileishmanial properties.

Antibacterial and antioxidant activities of compounds isolated from the leaves of Symphonia globulifera (Clusiaceae) and their chemophenetic significance

Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, 2021
Abstract The phytochemical study was done on the methanol extract from of the leaves of Symphonia globulifera. This plant has been used in traditional medicine to treat of different ailments such as malaria, diseases of the skin, diabetes, cough, intestinal worms, pre-hepatic jaundice and fever.

Extractives from Guttiferae. Part II. The isolation and structure of four polyhydroxyxanthones in Symphonia globulifera L.

Journal of the Chemical Society C, Organic, 1966
Four xanthones isolated from Symphonia globulifera L., have been shown to be 1,7-dihydroxyxanthone (euxanthone), 1,5,6-trihydroxyxanthone, 1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxyxanthone, and 1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxyxanthone. Experiments leading to the synthesis of 1,7-dihydroxyxanthone are described.

Comparative LC–MS-based metabolite profiling of the ancient tropical rainforest tree Symphonia globulifera

Phytochemistry, 2014
In the last few years, several phytochemical studies have been undertaken on the tropical tree Symphonia globulifera leading to the isolation and characterisation of several compounds exhibiting antiparasitic activities against Plasmodium falciparum, Trypanosoma brucei and Leishmania donovani.

Microsatellite analysis of demographic genetic structure in fragmented populations of the tropical tree Symphonia globulifera

Molecular Ecology, 1998
We developed genetic markers for three microsatellite loci in the tropical tree Symphonia globulifera and used them to examine the demographic genetic consequences of forest fragmentation. High levels of genetic variation were revealed in samples of adults, saplings, and seedlings.

Globulixanthones A and B, Two New Cytotoxic Xanthones with Isoprenoid Groups from the Root Bark of Symphonia globulifera

Journal of Natural Products, 2002
Bioassay-guided fractionation of a root bark extract of Symphonia globulifera has yielded, in addition to stigmasterol, two new xanthones with isoprenoid units, named globulixanthones A (1) and B (2). The structures of these compounds have been elucidated by spectroscopic means. They possess significant cytotoxicity in vitro against the KB cell line.

Anti-plasmodial and antioxidant activities of constituents of the seed shells of Symphonia globulifera Linn f.

Phytochemistry, 2006
A xanthone derivative, named gaboxanthone (1), has been isolated from the seed shells of Symphonia globulifera, together with known compounds, symphonin (2), globuliferin (3), guttiferone A (4), sistosterol, oleanolic acid and methyl citrate. The structure of the compound was assigned as 5,10-dihydroxy-8,9-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethyl-12-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)

Biochemical Assessment of Fertility-Enhancing Effect of Aqueous Extract of Symphonia globulifera (Linn. F.) In Adult Male Wistar Rats [PDF]

open access: yesBiomedical Research and Clinical Reviews, 2021
The present study investigated the effect of oral administration of aqueous extract of Symphonia globulifera root on fertility in addition to its effect on some biochemical indices in adult male Wistar rats. After the aqueous extraction, phytochemical screening was carried out.
