Extractives from guttiferae. Part IV. Isolation and structure of ugaxanthone and mbarraxanthone from Symphonia globulifera L.

Journal of the Chemical Society C, Organic, 1966
Two xanthones isolated from Symphonia globulifera L. have been named ugaxanthone and mbarraxanthone and shown to be 4-(3,3-dimethylallyl)-1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxyxanthone(Ia) and 4-(3,3-dimethylallyl)-1,3,7-trihydroxyxanthone (IVa). The synthesis of mbarraxanthone dimethyl ether (IVb) is reported.

Low Interannual Variation of Mating System and Gene Flow of Symphonia globulifera in the Brazilian Amazon

Biotropica, 2007
ABSTRACTSix microsatellite loci were used to compare the mating system and gene flow in two consecutive years of a natural, unlogged population of Symphonia globulifera in a 500 ha experimental plot in the Brazilian Amazon (Flona Tapajós). The species had a low density of reproductive trees per hectare (d= 0.46 trees/ha).

Anti-onchocerca activity, toxicity and induced biochemical changes of Allanblackia floribunda and Symphonia globulifera stem bark methanolic extracts in mice

open access: yesJournal of Parasitic Diseases
Human onchocerciasis has devastating pathological effects and the control relies on community directed treatment with ivermectin. However, ivermectin is only microfilaricidal and threatened by potential resistance in the parasite among other limitations.

The guttiferones, HIV-inhibitory benzophenones from Symphonia globulifera, Garcinia livingstonei, Garcinia ovalifolia and Clusia rosea

Tetrahedron, 1992
Abstract Extracts from species of the tropical plant genera Symphonia , Garcinia and Clusia (Guttiferae) have yielded a series of new polyisoprenylated benzophenone derivatives named guttiferones A–E (1–5). Structural assignments were based on detailed spectral analysis. These compounds inhibit the cytophatic effects of in vitro

High levels of pollen dispersal detected through paternity analysis from a continuous Symphonia globulifera population in the Brazilian Amazon

Forest Ecology and Management, 2009
Abstract In this study, six highly polymorphic microsatellite loci and a categorical paternity analysis approach were used to investigate the contemporary pollen gene flow in the neotropical tree species Symphonia globulifera . Data for this study were taken from a 500 ha experimental plot in a dense terra firme forest in the Eastern Brazilian ...
