Safety of Daprodustat for the Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease Anemia: Final Analysis of a Multicenter Postmarketing Surveillance Study in Japan

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This final analysis of a multicenter, prospective postmarketing surveillance study evaluated the safety of daprodustat in patients with chronic kidney disease anemia in routine clinical practice in Japan. Methods Patients who initiated daprodustat between September 2020 and July 2022 were registered.

A Novel Case of Symptomatic BK Viraemia in a Patient Undergoing Treatment for Hodgkin Lymphoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Symptomatic BK viral infection in the immunocompromised host is well described, most commonly seen in renal transplant recipients, bone marrow transplant recipients, and HIV positive patients.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Placental histopathology after Coxiella burnetii infection during pregnancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Symptomatic and asymptomatic Coxiella burnetii infection during pregnancy have been associated with obstetric complications. We described placental histopathology and clinical outcome of five cases with asymptomatic C. burnetii infection during pregnancy

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

A case of neonatal cytomegalovirus infection with severe thrombocytopenia that was successfully managed with empiric antiviral therapy

open access: yesIDCases, 2020
Antiviral therapy against cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is indicated for symptomatic infection in the fetus and premature neonates. In mature neonates, the benefit of antiviral therapy for severe CMV infection remains controversial.

A study on the cell mediated immunity of human cytomegalovirus infection in kidney transplant recipients [PDF]

open access: yes
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a major complication after kidney transplantation. Despite antiviral therapy it contributes significantly to high morbidity. This study was aimed at (a) detecting· a CMV specific antigen pp65 in CMV -infected fibroblast

Individuals with Le(a+b−) Blood Group have Increased Susceptibility to Symptomatic \(Vibrio\) \(cholerae\) O1 Infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Human genetic factors such as blood group antigens may affect the severity of infectious diseases. Presence of specific ABO and Lewis blood group antigens has been shown previously to be associated with the risk of different enteric ...

Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.
