Does tax avoidance increase informational asymmetry? Evidence from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Contabilidade & Finanças
This article aims to examine whether corporate tax avoidance increases informational asymmetry. Specifically, we examine how the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) decreased tax avoidance incentives and, as a consequence, reduced firms’ informational ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Synchronizing the asynchronous

open access: yes, 2017
Synchronous programs are easy to specify because the side effects of an operation are finished by the time the invocation of the operation returns to the caller. Asynchronous programs, on the other hand, are difficult to specify because there are side effects due to pending computation scheduled as a result of the invocation of an operation.

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

The Impact of Free Cash Flow and Growth Opportunity on Disclosure Quality and Stock Return Synchronicity [PDF]

open access: yesپژوهش‌های تجربی حسابداری, 2017
This paper is aimed to investigate whether Jensen's free cash flow problem increases stock return synchronicity or not. Based on the previous studies, this is expected that low-growth firms with high free cash flow increase stock return synchronicity by ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Do manager networks affect the efficiency of capital markets? Empirical research based on social network theory

open access: yesBorsa Istanbul Review
Managers generally possess complex social networks and occupy central positions within their networks. We investigate the influence of managers’ social network relationships on capital market pricing efficiency by specifically analysing the relationship ...

Synchronicity in Signage Promotes a Sense of Belonging

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Journal of Signage and Wayfinding, 2018
The role of synchronicity in signage is investigated in two studies. Synchronicity has been theoretically linked to solidarity or a feeling of unity. In this research, we empirically investigate the effects of depicting synchronicity in signage using ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐
