Following one's heart: cardiac rhythms gate central initiation of sympathetic reflexes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Central nervous processing of environmental stimuli requires integration of sensory information with ongoing autonomic control of cardiovascular function.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Double primary malignancies associated with colon cancer in patients with situs inversus totalis: two case reports

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2011
Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is not itself a premalignant condition, however, rare synchronous or metachronous multiple primary malignancies have been reported.

Incidental discovery of a Hodgkin lymphoma synchronous to a papillary thyroid carcinoma

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2022
Papillary thyroid carcinoma is the most common type of thyroid cancer and accounts for almost 89.4% of all thyroid carcinomas. Hodgkin lymphoma is a heterogeneous group of neoplasms and represents 10% of lymphomas. These two cancers do not share the same

Targeting TNBC: core–shell polycationic polyurea dendrimers with inherent anticancer activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Core–shell polycationic PURE dendrimers were tested in TNBC‐derived tumor models. Both formulations selectively targeted TNBC and effectively reduced tumor volume. PUREG4‐OEI48 suppressed tumor growth without detectable toxicity, whereas PUREG4‐OCEI24, despite showing efficacy, induced hepatic toxicity.

Diagnostic challenge posed by an intriguing case of simultaneous bilateral ovarian torsion and synchronous endometrial adenocarcinoma

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology
Objective: We present an intriguing case of simultaneous, bilateral, complete ovarian torsion with synchronous endometrial adenocarcinoma in a previously healthy patient with a reported history of unilateral oophorectomy.

Communication aspects of virtual learning environments: perspectives of early adopters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) are increasingly used in higher education to support communication and collaboration among students. However, there is little research into the effectiveness of VLE communication tools, and how they might be improved.

Chimera states: Coexistence of coherence and incoherence in networks of coupled oscillators

open access: yes, 2015
A chimera state is a spatio-temporal pattern in a network of identical coupled oscillators in which synchronous and asynchronous oscillation coexist.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐
