Surveillance in Lynch Syndrome

Familial Cancer, 2005
The major aim of surveillance in Lynch syndrome is to diagnose malignant or premalignant lesions at the asymptomatic stage by regular checkups, particularly in the large bowel. Therefore, screening for colorectal adenomas and carcinomas by regular colonoscopies is the main topic of the present review.

Syndromic Surveillance Implementation During Disaster Events

Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness, 2023
Abstract Introduction: Disease surveillance is an integral part of public health. These systems monitor disease trends and detect outbreaks, whereas they should be evaluated for efficacy. The United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention publish Guidelines for Evaluating Surveillance Systems to encourage efficient and effective

Epidemic Simulation for Syndromic Surveillance

The Health Care Manager, 2007
This article reports on a project to develop a simulation-based test bed for the BioDefend Syndromic Surveillance System. BioDefend is a system that data mines syndrome reports from emergency rooms and so forth to produce early alerts of epidemic onset.

Syndromic Surveillance for Influenzalike Illness

Biosecurity and Bioterrorism: Biodefense Strategy, Practice, and Science, 2008
Emergency department data are currently being used by several syndromic surveillance systems to identify outbreaks of natural or man-made illnesses, and preliminary results suggest that regular outbreaks might be detected earlier with such data than with traditional reporting.

National Reye Syndrome Surveillance, 1982

Pediatrics, 1985
Despite the fact that influenza B was the primary influenza virus strain during the winter of 1981-1982, only 213 cases of Reye syndrome were reported to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) between Dec 1, 1981 and Nov 30, 1982. This national reported incidence of 0.33 cases per 100,000 children less than 18 years of age is the lowest reported ...

Factors affecting automated syndromic surveillance

Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, 2005
The increased threat of bioterroristic attacks and epidemic events requires the development of accurate and timely outbreak detection systems for early identification of anomalies in public health data.We propose an automated outbreak detection system based on syndromic data. This system uses an autoregressive model with seasonal components to monitor,

Situational Uses of Syndromic Surveillance

Biosecurity and Bioterrorism: Biodefense Strategy, Practice, and Science, 2009
Since 2001, many state and local health departments have implemented automated systems to monitor healthcare use and to promptly identify and track epidemics and other public health threats. In 2007-08, we conducted case studies of selected events with actual or potential public health impacts to determine whether and how health departments and ...

Setting standards for improved syndromic surveillance

IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine, 2004
Clearly, there is a need for data at multiple levels and many locations. Investigations of possible cases and outbreaks must occur locally, and local data must be available as generated to healthcare providers and emergency responders. At the same time, regional, national and international authorities need aggregated data to understand the scope of an ...
