Enhancing properties of iron and manganese ores as oxygen carriers for chemical looping processes by dry impregnation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The use of naturally occurring ores as oxygen carriers in CLC processes is attractive because of their relative abundance and low cost. Unfortunately, they typically exhibit lower reactivity and lack the mechanical robustness required, when compared to ...

Biological conversion of carbon monoxide: rich syngas or waste gases to bioethanol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Bioconversion of syngas/waste gas components to produce ethanol appears to be a promising alternative compared to the existing chemical techniques. Recently, several laboratory-scale studies have demonstrated the use of acetogens that have the ability to

Solid oxide electrolysis: Concluding remarks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Renewable energy resources such as solar energy, wind energy, hydropower or geothermal energy have attracted significant attention in recent years. Renewable energy sources have to match supply with demand, therefore it is essential that energy storage ...

Crystal Engineering of Reticular Materials for Gas‐ and Liquid‐Phase Hydrocarbon Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Crystal engineering enables systematic study of structure/function relationships as exemplified by pore engineering of reticular sorbents, including porous coordination networks and covalent organic frameworks. This review assesses such studies applied across the full scope of industrially relevant hydrocarbon separations to provide insight into how ...

Synthesis Gas Purification Purification des gaz de synthèse

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2013
Fischer-Tropsch (FT) based B-XTL processes are attractive alternatives for future energy production. These processes aim at converting lignocellulosic biomass possibly in co-processing with petcoke, coal, or vacuum residues into synthetic biofuels.

Technologies for Coal based Hydrogen and Electricity Co-production Power Plants with CO2 Capture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) plants allow the combination of the production of hydrogen and electricity because coal gasification process produces a syngas that can be used for the production of both commodities.

Microwave Ultrafast Heating on Iron‐based Nanogap Catalysts for CO2 Reduction Coupling with Coke Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study employs a nanogap‐induced microwave discharge strategy to pretreat coke deposits on iron‐based catalysts with engineered nanogaps, causing ultrarapid heating to 1990 K within seconds, selectively eliminating >70% surface carbon deposits and converting waste plastics and greenhouse gases into syngas.

Transitioning of the Chemical Industry Toward a Net‐Zero Carbon Dioxide Emission Path

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 4, 22 January 2026.
One way to reduce the greenhouse gas footprint of the chemical industry to almost zero would be the production of the platform molecules C1‐compounds, olefins, aromatics, and ammonia by non‐fossil pathways. The rest of the chemical production chains could be essentially left unchanged, provided the process energy input is renewable.

Improving Carbon and Process Utilization for Biomass-to-Liquid Fuel Operations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
With the increasing world demand for transportation fuels, declining petroleum reserves and quest for energy security, there is a renewed interest in Fischer-Tropsch (FT) technology as a viable alternative for the production of liquid
