Lunar Synodical Period and Widespread Precipitation

Precipitation activity over broad areas appears to be closely associated with the monthly lunisolar cycle. Indexes of precipitation in the continental United States over a continuous 50-year period, and 91-year daily histories of individual stations, reveal that heavy rains occur most frequently in the first and third weeks of the synodical month.

The Lunar Synodical Period and Precipitation in the United States

Abstract A cycle of 14.765 days, one-half of the lunar synodic month, can be demonstrated in the precipitation data for the United States for the period 1871–1961. Numerous rigorous statistical tests show that association is real and an estimate is obtained of the magnitude of the lunar effect.

The Solar and Cosmic-Ray Synodic Periodicity (1969–1998)

The synodic recurrence of the Mt. Wilson plage index (MPSI) and the Calgary cosmic ray (CR) intensity is investigated, using the wavelet power spectra in the range of 18–38 days, during the last three solar cycles. The unique temporal coincidence between the quasiiasynodic MPSI and the CR periods is detected in 1978–1982 (the 21st solar cycle).

Synodic periods of asteroids 333, 402, 481, and 800

Abstract The asteroids 333 Badenia, 402 Chloe, 481 Emita and 800 Kressmannia have been observed using photoelectric photometry during their 1997 apparations. The obtained synodic periods are: 333 Badenia — 9.96 h; 402 Chloe — 7.111 h; 481 Emita — 14.35 h and 800 Kressmannia — 4.457 h. There are no published periods so far for the first three.

The synodic rotational period of asteroid 4332 Milton

Abstract The results of our new photometric observations of the main-belt asteroid 4332 Milton are presented. These observations were obtained on two successive nights in August 2012 at Canakkale University Observatory. The bimodal light curve amplitude and period were determined to be 0.16 ± 0.01 mag and 3.295 ± 0.005 h, respectively.

On the relation between the synodic and sidereal rotation period of the Sun

It is pointed out that by taking Kepler's second law into account, the ‘sidereal correction’, i.e., the correction to be added to the observed synodic rotation rate of the Sun in order to get the sidereal rate, can be calculated more directly than described in a recent paper by Rosa et al. (1995).
