Novelty for the flora of Espírito Santo, Brazil: a new species of Ouratea Aubl. (Ochnaceae)

Here, we describe and illustrate the new species Ouratea oberdanii Fraga & Deccache, which is named after Dr Oberdan José Pereira. This new species is found in the mountainous regions of the evergreen Atlantic Forest in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo. Large palynological collections have been built over decades and contain vital information. However, they are often difficult to access and use effectively. What is the point of having such collections if they are not fully utilizable? To solve this problem, we digitized the Smithsonian palynological collection using both light and confocal microscopy.
