Acidosis of synovial fluid correlates with synovial fluid leukocytosis [PDF]

open access: possibleThe American Journal of Medicine, 1978
The antibacterial activity of aminoglycoside antibiotics is significantly reduced by lowering the pH of the incubation medium. Since gram-negative septic arthritis responds poorly to aminoglycoside antibiotic therapy, we sought to determine whether synovial fluid acidosis contributes to this poor outcome.

Deep learning-based automated detection of human knee joint's synovial fluid from magnetic resonance images with transfer learning

IET Image Processing, 2020
As an analytic tool in medicine, particularly in radiology, deep learning is gaining much attention and opening a new way for disease diagnosis. Nonetheless, it is rather challenging to acquire large-scale detailed labelled datasets in the field of ...

Synovial Fluid Crystals

QJM: An International Journal of Medicine, 1979
Synovial fluid was aspirated from the Joints of unselected groups of patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (30), osteoarthritis (34), pyrophosphate arthropathy (25) and gout (six). Specially selected patients with osteoarthritis (10) and other miscellaneous forms of arthropathy (six) were also Included.

LACTOFERRIN IN SYNOVIAL FLUID

Rheumatology, 1977
The synovial lactoferrin (LF) concentrations of 59 patients with active rheumatoid arthritis were determined. The median value of LF was 4.64+/-3.59 mg/100 ml, but in degenerative arthropathy the levels of the metal-protein were much lower and often not titratable.

The Synovial Fluid

Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 1979
The synovial fluid is readily available for study in all cases of effusion. Whenever a question of diagnosis arises, the fluid should be removed for study. Removal of large effusions gives temporary relief of pain. The fluid removed should be smeared on a slide, stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and plated for bacterial, viral, and fungal cultures ...

Shear-thinning hyaluronan-based fluid hydrogels to modulate viscoelastic properties of osteoarthritis synovial fluids.

Biomaterials Science, 2019
Hyaluronan (hyaluronic acid, HA) has been extensively explored as an attractive biomaterial for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications due to its unique physiological properties. In particular, HA is a major component of synovial fluid in normal knee

Synovial fluid analysis

Reumatología Clínica (English Edition), 2010
At present, the study of the synovial fluid (SF) is a tool that is used frequently in specialized laboratories because it allows the establishment of diagnosis of crystal associated arthropathies, supports the diagnosis of septic arthritis and helps establish other rheumatologic diagnoses such as monoarthritis or joint effusion.
