open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 63, Issue 12, June 2026.

Why swimming is just as difficult as dying for japanese learners of english

open access: yes, 2013
While both Japanese and English have a grammatic al form denoting the progressive, the two forms (te-iru & be+ing) interact differently with the inherent semantics of the verb to which they attach (Kindaichi, 1950; McClure, 1995; Shirai, 2000).

Gricean metacommunication

open access: yesMind &Language, Volume 41, Issue 3, Page 318-339, June 2026.
Three main approaches exist for finessing the cognitive demands of Grice's model of communication (a notorious problem): namely, deflationism, modularity, and interpretivism. Here, I consider each in light of human metacommunication, a phenomenon that has been neglected in foundational discussions of Gricean communication.
