Racial and Gender Wage Differentials in South Africa: What can Cohort Data tell? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Three subsequent years of the October Household Survey data are used to construct a synthetic panel. Preparing cross sectional data that way allows to better utilise individual information and to address temporal developments also in the absence of ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Improvement of Quantification of Myocardial Synthetic ECV with Second-Generation Deep Learning Reconstruction

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease
Background: The utility of synthetic ECV, which does not require hematocrit values, has been reported; however, high-quality CT images are essential for accurate quantification.

Synthetic CT generation for MRI-guided adaptive radiotherapy in prostate cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2022
Current MRI-guided adaptive radiotherapy (MRgART) workflows require fraction-specific electron and/or mass density maps, which are created by deformable image registration (DIR) between the simulation CT images and daily MR images.

Improved Color-Temperature Relations and Bolometric Corrections for Cool Stars

open access: yes, 1999
We present new grids of colors and bolometric corrections for F-K stars having 4000 K < Teff < 6500 K, 0.0 < log g < 4.5 and -3.0 < [Fe/H] < 0.0. A companion paper extends these calculations into the M giant regime.

Cepstral analysis based on the Glimpse proportion measure for improving the intelligibility of HMM-based synthetic speech in noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper we introduce a new cepstral coefficient extraction method based on an intelligibility measure for speech in noise, the Glimpse Proportion measure.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Spatial resolution enhancement using deep learning improves chest disease diagnosis based on thick slice CT

open access: yesnpj Digital Medicine
CT is crucial for diagnosing chest diseases, with image quality affected by spatial resolution. Thick-slice CT remains prevalent in practice due to cost considerations, yet its coarse spatial resolution may hinder accurate diagnoses.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Radiation-free diagnosis of lumbar spondylolysis: case series evaluating MRI-based synthetic CT efficacy

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine
Background Computed tomography (CT) is favored for diagnosing lumbar spondylolysis owing to its high resolution, rapid scanning, and cost-effectiveness.
