Antimicrobial Activity of Natural or Synthetic Hydrolysable Tannins

2008
Hydrolysable tannins (HTs), secondary metabolites widely distributed in the plant kingdom, are generally multiple esters of gallic acid with glucose. HTs have been shown to be effective antagonists against viruses, bacteria and eukaryotic microorganisms.

Guava-fruit extract can improve the UV-protection efficiency of synthetic filters in sun cream formulations.

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology. B: Biology, 2019
Increasing concerns about health safety, social impacts and fair trade have intensified the industrial interest for using natural products in commercial cosmetic formulations. Several studies are currently focusing on plant extracts, but tropical fruits,

Lignin Functionalization through Chemical Demethylation: Preparation and Tannin-Like Properties of Demethylated Guaiacyl-Type Synthetic Lignins

ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, 2017
Demethylation of guaiacyl-type synthetic lignin (GDHP) with three different reagents, 1-dodecanethiol (DSH), hydroiodic acid (HI), and iodocyclohexane (ICH), was investigated as a basic study for lignin functionalization. Demethylation did not proceed efficiently in the reaction with DSH, although cleavage of the lignin side chains and nucleophilic ...

Mannoprotein and hydrolyzable tannin enhance aroma retention in a non‐alcoholic synthetic wine matrix during storage

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture
Abstract BACKGROUND Reverse osmosis (RO) is a promising non‐thermal dealcoholization technology, yet substantial volatile losses during processing and storage limit its potential for producing premium non‐alcoholic wines.

Il trattamento chimico-fisico di tannini sintetici mediante l’utilizzo di coagulanti misti organici = Treatment of synthetic tannins by chemical coagulation through metallorganic coagulants

2009
