SERODIAGNOSIS OF SYPHILIS IN A COMMUNITY: AN EVALUATORY STUDY
Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2003To analyse the prevalence of syphilis in the apparently healthy population and to provide data for implementation of the joint STD/HIV control programme, a population based study was undertaken by using 'probability proportional to size' cluster survey method in three randomly chosen districts of Tamil Nadu, India namely Dindigul, Ramnad and Tanjore ...

LAUGHLEN'S TEST FOR THE SERODIAGNOSIS OF SYPHILIS
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1937The serologic diagnosis of syphilis is at present complicated, time consuming and expensive. A rapid, cheap and reliable method of diagnosis is highly desirable. Laughlen 1 has recently described such a method and it is our purpose in this brief communication to report on its use in 1,000 serums taken in a routine manner from hospital patients.

Half a Century of Serodiagnosis of Syphilis [PDF]
INTRODUCTION When A. Wassermann, A. Neisser, and C. Bruck first published a paper entitled "Eine serodiagnostische Reaktion bei Syphilis" in the Deutsche medizinische Wochenschrift ( 32 :745-746 [May 10] 1906), a new branch of science was started. The first sentences gave no evidence of how important and abundant the consequences would be. They wrote:

Reliability of the Treponemal Hemagglutination Test for the Serodiagnosis of Syphilis
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1973The reliability of the treponemal hemagglutination (TPHA) test for the serodiagnosis of syphilis was evaluated by testing 306 sera with the TPHA and fluorescent treponemal antibody-absorbed (FTA-Abs) tests. Overall agreement between the two tests was obtained with 90.2% of the sera. Fifteen of the discrepant sera were FTA-Abs-positive and TPHA-negative,

Reversed passive hemagglutination for serodiagnosis of syphilis.
The Journal of laboratory and clinical medicine, 1968Abstract A serodiagnostic reaction for syphilis based on passive hemagglutination is described. Sensitization of tanned erythrocytes was carried out with sera from syphilitic patients. The reaction was used simultaneously with treponemal and cardiolipin antigens. The reaction had a very high sensitivity response.

Enzyme-linked immunofiltration assay for rapid serodiagnosis of syphilis
European Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1987A new rapid technique for detection of serum treponemal antibodies is described which is based on an enzyme-linked immunoassay using nitrocellulose as solid phase. With this technique antigen-antibody binding is accelerated by the filtration of the antibody solution through the antigen-coated nitrocellulose filter instead of its remaining over the ...

Hemagglutination Tests and Related Advances in Serodiagnosis of Syphilis
Archives of Dermatology, 1974Preliminary studies indicate that hemagglutination tests for Treponema pallidum antibodies compare favorably with the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA-ABS) test for serodiagnosis of syphilis. Hemagglutination tests appear to be as sensitive as the FTA-ABS test in all phases of syphilis except primary syphilis and they are probably more ...

Neisser's influence on serodiagnosis of syphilis in Croatia
2007There are world wide well known Albert Neisser's scientific experimental works in syphilis research. In Laboratory for serodiagnosis of syphilis at the Department of Dermatology and Venerology University Hospital Center Zagreb and School of Medicine in Zagreb, Croatia we are very familiar with Neisser and Wassermann importance in diagnosis of syphilis.
