Mr BMT Achieves Systemic Macrophage Replacement With Preservation of Tissue Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microglia replacement by bone marrow transplantation (Mr BMT) enables systemic replacement of tissue‐resident macrophages. Despite persistent macrophage and tissue remodeling across multiple organs, core biological functions and innate immune responses remain preserved, supporting long‐term maintenance of organismal homeostasis and the therapeutic ...

Association of safer smoking supply distribution with participant encounters and naloxone distribution from syringe services programs: Findings from the National Survey of Syringe Services Programs in the United States

open access: yesDrug and Alcohol Dependence Reports
Background: In response to the recent and growing shift from injecting heroin to smoking fentanyl, an increasing number of syringe services programs (SSPs) in the United States are distributing safer smoking supplies.

Cyclic Mechanical Loading of Cardiomyocytes via Pressure‐Driven Non‐Planar Membrane Deformation in a Bioreactor System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this research article, Mansoor and coworkers present a novel device that applies controlled mechanical stimuli to cardiomyocytes using pressure‐driven membrane deformation. By exposing cells to physiologically and pathologically relevant loading conditions, the platform reproduces distinct structural, functional and molecular responses associated ...

Drug checking services: barriers and facilitators to implementation by U.S. syringe services programs

open access: yesHarm Reduction Journal
Syringe services programs (SSPs) provide evidence-based services to prevent the spread of disease and reduce overdose mortality among people who use drugs. To address unacceptably high levels of overdose, some SSPs have implemented advanced drug checking services (DCS) to identify illicitly manufactured fentanyl, xylazine, and other unexpected ...

Polychip‐A High‐Throughput Droplet Microfluidics Platform for Interrogating Microbial Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Polychip, a fully integrated droplet microfluidics platform, enables high‐throughput, single‐cell resolution screening of polymicrobial interactions. By seamlessly combining six automated microfluidics operations on a single chip, the system accelerates antimicrobial discovery by 11 to 14 times compared to traditional robotic methods.

SERS Facemask for Rapid and Portable Sensing Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Antigens for TB Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study introduced an Au─Ag embedded covalent organic framework (U@COF) ‐mediated facemask for sensing TB antigen ESAT‐6/CFP‐10 complex in clinical droplet samples toward TB screening. Practical analysis of clinical samples demonstrated the availability of our facemask, which is capable of identifying the TB subjects (N = 17) from healthy candidates (

Hostility, compassion and role reversal in West Virginia’s long opioid overdose emergency

open access: yesHarm Reduction Journal, 2020
Background West Virginia is a largely rural state with strong ties of kinship, mutual systems of support and charitable giving. At the same time, wealth inequalities are extreme and the state’s drug overdose fatality rate stands above all others in the ...

Sub‐Terahertz Memristor Switches Using MoS2 by Liquid–Liquid Interface Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces application‐ready sub‐terahertz memristor switches fabricated from electrochemically exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets assembled at a liquid–liquid interface. The devices exhibit robust unipolar resistive switching, low insertion loss, and high isolation across 10–110 GHz.

Inhibition of KDEL Receptors Remodels the Tumor Microenvironment for T Cell Independent Tumor Regression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inhibition of KDELR2 in a small fraction of tumor cells generates sustainable immunogenic cell death conditions within the tumor microenvironment. These conditions promote the regression of tumors in a T cell independent manner. During regression, macrophages prime T cells that subsequently provide systemic protection against recurrence. The potency of

Large decrease in syringe distribution following the introduction of fentanyl in King County, Washington

open access: yesDrug and Alcohol Dependence Reports
Background: Syringe services programs (SSPs) serve as key platforms to deliver harm reduction services to people who use drugs (PWUD). Changes in drug supply and drug consumption behaviors, particularly the increasing use of fentanyl through non ...
