The carboxylate “gripper” of the substrate is critical for C‐4 stereo‐inversion by UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Position: The AI Conference Peer Review Crisis Demands Author Feedback and Reviewer Rewards [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The peer review process in major artificial intelligence (AI) conferences faces unprecedented challenges with the surge of paper submissions (exceeding 10,000 submissions per venue), accompanied by growing concerns over review quality and reviewer responsibility. This position paper argues for the need to transform the traditional one-way review system

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Exploring the pharmacological versatility of ficus carica: Modulating classical immunometabolism and beyond

open access: yesPharmacological Research, 2023
The burden of metabolic disorders is alarmingly increasing globally. On the other hand, sustainability is the key project of the 21st century. Natural products offer a coherent option for the complementary management of both these challenges.

Crowdsourcing Information Extraction for Biomedical Systematic Reviews [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Information extraction is a critical step in the practice of conducting biomedical systematic literature reviews. Extracted structured data can be aggregated via methods such as statistical meta-analysis. Typically highly trained domain experts extract data for systematic reviews.

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Enhancing Systematic Reviews with Large Language Models: Using GPT-4 and Kimi [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This research delved into GPT-4 and Kimi, two Large Language Models (LLMs), for systematic reviews. We evaluated their performance by comparing LLM-generated codes with human-generated codes from a peer-reviewed systematic review on assessment. Our findings suggested that the performance of LLMs fluctuates by data volume and question complexity for ...
