Desempeño de dos diseños de muestreo empleados en la evaluación de crustáceos demersales mediante el método de área barrida Performance of two sampling designs used to evaluate demersal crustaceans with the swept area method

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2009
Se simula la densidad teórica de la variable Captura por Unidad de Área (CPUA) que podría tener un crustáceo demersal distribuido sobre la plataforma continental en una locación geográfica pre-defmida.

RandomSpot: A web-based tool for systematic random sampling of virtual slides

open access: yesJournal of Pathology Informatics, 2015
This paper describes work presented at the Nordic Symposium on Digital Pathology 2014, Linköping, Sweden. Systematic random sampling (SRS) is a stereological tool, which provides a framework to quickly build an accurate estimation of the distribution of ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Impact of Systematic Sampling on Causality in the presence of Unit Roots [PDF]

open access: yes
Quite contrary to the stationary case where systematic sampling preserves the direction of Granger causality, this paper shows that systematic sampling of integrated series may induce spurious causality, even if they are used in differenced form ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Finding rare and patched type population variance via systematic analysis using adaptive cluster sampling

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
To address uncommon and endangered species of infectious diseases, valuable plants, minerals, and natural resources, as well as patched populations that are available in the form of clusters, we propose a unique generalized variance estimator for finite ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Circular Systematic Sampling with Varying Probabilities

open access: yes, 1987
Certain conditions connecting the population size, sample size and the sampling interval in circular systematic sampling with equal probabilities are known.

An application of modified systematic sampling in auto-correlated populations

open access: yesKuwait Journal of Science
This study explores the efficiency of modified systematic sampling (MSS) in the context of auto-correlated populations. The MSS scheme is compared to linear systematic sampling (LSS), circular systematic sampling (CSS) and mixed random systematic ...
