New Systemic Inflammatory Indices as Predictors of Fulminant Myocarditis in Children

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background/Objectives: Myocarditis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in children and can lead to long-term heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, the need for heart transplantation, or death.

The value of inflammatory indices in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis and prediction of complicated appendicitis: a retrospective study [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Background Acute appendicitis is a common cause of acute abdominal pain, typically treated surgically, although medical management is also an option. Laboratory investigations play a valuable role in diagnosis and predicting prognosis.

Is there a relationship between systemic immune-inflammatory indices and asthma? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Immune inflammatory response plays an important role in patients with asthma. The goal of the current study is to determine whether pan-immune inflammation value (PIV) and systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) are effective in predicting asthma ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Associations between vitamin K and systemic immune and inflammation biomarkers: a population-based study from the NHANES (2007–2020)

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundWith the aging of the population, finding effective interventions and treatments to delay chronic inflammation-related diseases is an urgent problem to be solved. Previous studies on animals have proposed that vitamin K can inhibit inflammation

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Can We Determine Osteoarthritis Severity Based on Systemic Immuno-Inflammatory Index?

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the common joint diseases. Hematologic markers have been investigated to determine its severity and predict the prognosis of joint diseases. In this study, we investigated whether the systemic immune-inflammatory

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

A retrospective observational study on the prognostic role of inflammatory markers in futile recanalization after endovascular treatment for large-vessel stroke

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Objective Endovascular treatment has proven to be effective in improving the outcome of patients with large-vessel stroke. However, more than half of the patients experience poor outcomes despite successful recanalization, which was defined as futile ...

Predictive Values of Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index in New-Onset Atrial Fibrillation Following Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, 2022
Introduction: We investigated the relationship between the newly-defined systemic immune-inflammation index and the new-onset atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting.
