Cancer cell‐intrinsic type 1 interferon: production, signaling, and outcomes within sex‐biased, female malignancies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cell‐autonomous roles of interferon type 1 vary based on duration and intensity. While acute, robust signaling results in cancer cell cytotoxic effects, sustained, low‐level signaling is associated with tumor‐promoting effects. This review summarizes current research of IFN‐1 in cancer and within the clinical setting, with an emphasis on female ...

Intrapatient tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution in an autopsy study of metastatic salivary gland cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution of metastatic salivary gland cancer were evaluated in two patients with adenoid carcinoma and one patient with myoepithelial carcinoma. Radiology‐guided autopsy enabled multi‐region sampling (total samples n = 149), followed by whole‐genome sequencing and phylogenetic reconstruction (17 tumour samples, 4–7 per ...

Predictive Value of Systemic Immune Inflammation Index, Aggregate Index of Systemic Inflammation, and Systemic Inflammation Response Index in Lower Extremity Deep Venous Thrombosis Following Severe Trauma

open access: yesChinese Medical Sciences Journal
Venous thromboembolism is a highly prevalent condition after polytrauma, and recognized as an important factor contributing to poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the risk factors for lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (LEDVT) in a severely traumatized population and to evaluate their predictive value for LEDVT.This was a ...

Association of follow-up neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and systemic inflammation response index with stroke-associated pneumonia and functional outcomes in cerebral hemorrhage patients: a case-controlled study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Surgery
Background: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) at admission are independent diagnostic biomarkers in stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP). Our study aimed to investigate the association between NLR, SIRI,

Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Correlations of systemic immune-inflammation index and systemic inflammation response index with the risk for early-onset post-stroke depression in patients with minor stroke: a prospective observational study

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
BackgroundInflammation plays a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of post-stroke depression (PSD). However, the relationship between novel systemic inflammatory indices-the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and systemic inflammation response ...

Correlation of systemic immune inflammation index and systemic inflammatory response index with the severity of Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
Background While the significance of inflammation in Parkinson’s disease (PD) pathogenesis has been established, the relevance of emerging hematological markers such as the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) to this disorder requires further investigation.

Predictive effect of the systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) on the efficacy and prognosis of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer

open access: yesBMC Surgery
Inflammation is a part of tumours, and inflammatory cells can affect the proliferation, invasion, and development of tumour cells. An increasing number of peripheral blood inflammatory markers have been found to play very important roles in the treatment

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Associations between SII, SIRI, and cardiovascular disease in obese individuals: a nationwide cross-sectional analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
