Systemic inflammation response index predicts short-term mortality in intensive care unit patients with bacterial bloodstream infections

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Bloodstream infections (BSI) in intensive care units (ICU) are associated with high mortality, requiring reliable prognostic tools. The systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) may be a novel biomarker that may help prediction of outcomes ...

Associations of systemic immune-inflammation index and aggregate index of systemic inflammation with acute gouty arthritis in men: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
ObjectiveThis study aims to evaluate the associations of complete blood cell count-derived inflammatory markers—including monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), Systemic Immune ...

Tumour‐proximal deep serum proteomics identifies biomarkers associated with ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
New biomarkers are needed for early ovarian cancer detection. Ovarian (tumour‐proximal) and peripheral vein serum from healthy women and patients with benign or malignant tumours underwent nanoparticle‐enriched deep proteomics. Ovarian serum yielded more protein identifications and revealed tumour‐reflective signatures.

ERYTHROCYTE AND LEUKOCYTE MODIFICATIONS IN CANINE SYSTEMIC INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE SYNDROME [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) is the manifestation of the systemic response to an infectious or non-infectious disease with a massive release of inflammatory mediators.

The impact of leukocyte‐associated RNA retention on platelet RNA‐based cancer detection

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Platelets carry RNA signals that may help detect cancer, but platelet samples can also retain RNA from white blood cells. We found that this retained white blood cell signal did not significantly affect machine learning cancer classification, suggesting that the cancer‐related RNA signal in platelets is largely independent of leukocyte‐associated RNA ...

The Correlation Between Systemic Immune-Inflammatory Index and Helicobacter Pylori Infection and Its Severity [PDF]

open access: yes
Aim: The systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII), derived from routine hemogram parameters, has recently emerged as a novel marker reflecting the balance between host immune status and inflammatory burden and may offer information about the severity of ...

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

The impact of body mass index on the development of systemic inflammatory response syndrome and sepsis in patients with polytrauma

open access: yes, 2012
PURPOSE: Obesity is a growing problem in industrial nations. Our aim was to examine how overweight patients coped with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) after polytrauma.
