A system for systems is required for quality health systems

Journal of Quality in Clinical Practice, 2000
Abstract Improving quality of health‐care requires a systematic approach at many different levels within a health system. The levels range from the interactions between individual patient–health provider to the international stage. The provision of care within and between each level needs to be systematically organised if the quality of our health ...

Modeling and Simulation of Living Systems as Systems of Systems

2013
In this chapter, we show that the system theoretic basis of the DEVS formalism matches the systemic point of view adopted in the living sciences field. Two examples, one in animal epidemiology and the other in plant growth modeling, illustrate different characteristics of DEVS and its extensions.

An implementers' view of systems engineering for systems of systems

2011 IEEE International Systems Conference, 2011
This has presented a time-sequenced wave model representation of SoS SE that is usable by SoS SE practitioners in developing implementation approaches to their activities. It has identified information critical to decision-making in SoS evolution, noted the artifacts in which the information is normally contained, and where the information and ...

Emergent Disservices in Interdependent Systems and System-of-Systems

2006 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 2006
The assessment and the evaluation of the risk exposure to failures and cyber attacks, is nowadays - in times of pervasive ICT applications - a much required task. However, in some cases, and especially when evaluating an ICT infrastructure (which can be logically and geographically sparse and which can provide services to other systems), the evaluation

A Framework for Characterising Complex Systems and System of Systems

2013 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 2013
The objective of this paper is to explore the current notions of systems and "System of Systems" and establish the case for quantitative characterization of their structural, behavioural and contextual facets that will pave the way for further formal development (mathematical formulation). This is partly driven by stakeholder needs and perspectives and

Governance in systems of systems: a systems-based model

International Journal of System of Systems Engineering, 2016
Many concepts associated with governance and governance systems fall short in their capacity to influence or 'steer' towards intended ideals, goals or desired outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to propose a model for complex governance systems that provides an alternative viewpoint based on systems theoretic principles.
