System of systems readiness assessment
2010 IEEE International Systems Conference, 2010Is this system still fit for purpose? This question becomes critical in a system of systems because many unannounced changes occur throughout the system content and context during its operational life. This challenge arises in multiple usage domains such as defense, national security, industrial, financial, commercial or personal.

Evaluation of IT systems considering characteristics as system of systems
2011 6th International Conference on System of Systems Engineering, 2011It is important for IT system integration (SI) to evaluate non-functional requirements (NFR) in design phase. However, since IT systems show system of systems (SoS) characteristics, the evaluation is a difficult work. An IT system consisting of independently developed systems has to be evaluated comprehensively as a whole system.

Resilience in systems of systems: electrified transport systems
2021 16th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE), 2021The transport system is a large system of systems which currently faces challenges because of the climate-change-induced need to decrease the use of fossil fuels. The aim of mitigating climate change is realized in many parts of the transport system, concurrently and at high pace, which brings with it many challenges for the resilience of the system ...

Automated Testing of Systems of Systems
2023There are various kinds of software applications like mobile and Web applications. These applications have different types of user interfaces and user interaction methods. Hence, test automation tools are either dedicated or configured for a particular kind of application.

System of Systems Approach for Maintaining Wastewater System
Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, 2019AbstractThis study demonstrates that modeling a wastewater system as a system of systems (SoS) rather than a monolithic system constitutes a useful methodological approach to dealing with the compl...

System Definition, System Worldviews, and Systemness Characteristics
IEEE Systems Journal, 2020The definition and characteristics of system have eluded humans for a very long time, as different people refer to the concept of system in various ways. A set of surveys conducted by us revealed seven distinct worldviews on system. We describe the surveys, analyze their results, and comment on differences between the responses.

2009 7th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics, 2009
This paper sets forth the stage for one of the most important issues in SoS - the control problem. The challenge for any control engineer and designer is to stabilize the SoS based on not only its own sensors on board, but just as critically important based on data transmissions from other sensors and actuators. For that reason the control design needs

THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM AS A SMART SYSTEM
Topics on Mathematics for Smart Systems, 2007Our work aims at modelling and simulating the growth processes that allow the cardiovascular system to adapt to the overall body development and to changing physiological (and pathological) conditions. Within the cardiovascular system, we pay particular attention to the heart and the aorta. A healthy aortic wall succeeds in keeping a homeostatic stress

On the Systems Engineering Process of some Systems (of Systems)
2018 13th Annual Conference on System of Systems Engineering (SoSE), 2018We concentrate in this paper on a requirement to the successful engineered systems (of systems—SoS), which is the goal of the system engineering process. The requirement is the need for a common communication system. We begin with an overview of Systems Engineering whereof we finally point out that not all systems to engineer give rise to the same ...

The available technology (e.g., the Internet) makes it possible to interconnect independently developed embedded systems (legacy systems) to form new system-of-systems (SoS) that promise more efficient economic processes and improved services. Examples of SoSs are smart power distribution, car-to-car communication, or air-traffic control. The different
