Spectral dataset of natural objects’ reflectance from the Southern cone of South America

open access: yesScientific Data
The reflection in natural objects mediates an important fraction of the light reaching animal photoreceptors. Knowledge of the spectral properties of natural objects is increasingly valuable for different research fields.

Optimization of cellobiohydrolase production and secretome analysis of Trametes villosa LBM 033 suitable for lignocellulosic bioconversion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The production of bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass comprises the enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosic structures by three major cellulases. Among them, cellobiohydrolases are considered to be key enzymes playing a significant role on cellulose ...

Increased arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal biomass and diversity in soil under long‐term climate drying and warming

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) support critical ecosystem services including plant resource acquisition and productivity. AMF functional traits such as relative biomass investment in root vs soil colonization or drought tolerance are thought to be evolutionarily conserved within AMF lineages and might influence AMF community responses to ...

Methyl Jasmonate Seed Priming Mitigates the Defence‐Growth Trade‐Off and Tailors Plant Response to Specific Pests

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Seed defence priming is emerging as a novel, cost‐efficient and environmentally safe tool for pest management. It has been proposed as a means to uncouple the defence‐growth trade‐off in plants by enhancing defence responses with minimal fitness costs, but the mechanisms underlying this role remain elusive.

Changes induced by UV radiation in the presence of sodium benzoate in films formulated with polyvinyl alcohol and carboxymethyl cellulose [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This work was focused on: i) developing single and blend films based on carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) studying their properties, ii) analyzing the interactions between CMC and PVOH and their modifications UV-induced in the ...

Photoprotective potential of gadusol against ultraviolet B radiation in melanocytes

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Gadusol protects melanocytes from ultraviolet B (UVB)‐induced damage without cytotoxicity. Abstract The increasing incidence of skin cancer, including melanoma, combined with the need for ultraviolet (UV) filters that are safe for human health and marine ecosystems, is driving the search for new photoprotective agents.

Acute toxicity of arsenic and oxidative stress responses in the embryonic development of the common South American toad Rhinella arenarum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Arsenic (As), a natural element of ecological relevance, is found in natural water sources throughout Argentina in concentrations between 0.01mg/L and 15mg/L. The autochthonous toad Rhinella arenarum was selected to study the acute toxicity of As and the
