The influence of methyl donor status on cervical cancer cell behaviour in vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Epidemiological studies suggest that the availability of methyl-donor nutrients may influence the risk of cervical cancer and of cancer progression. This effect may be mediated by altered DNA instability and aberrant DNA methylation.

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

T-cell-targeted fusogenic nanovesicles generate CAR-T cells in vivo for rheumatoid arthritis therapy

open access: yesBiomarker Research
Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease in which pathogenic B cells drive persistent inflammation and joint damage.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Characterization of CD8 T cell responses in Mycobacterium Tuberculosis infection

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of this project was to compare the breadth and magnitude of CFP10 and ESAT6-specific CD8 T cell responses in individuals with latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection (LTBI) and active TB disease, and further define MTB-specific CD8 T ...
