Selective Tropism of Lymphadenopathy Associated Virus (LAV) for Helper-Inducer T Lymphocytes

Science, 1984
Lymphadenopathy associated virus (LAV) has been isolated from patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or lymphadenopathy syndrome. Since the immune deficiency in AIDS seems to be primarily related to the defect of the helper-inducer T lymphocyte subset, the possibility that LAV is selectively tropic for this subset was investigated.

Displacement of T Lymphocytes with the ‘Helper/Inducer’ Phenotype from Peripheral Blood to Lymphoid Organs in Untreated Patients with Hodgkin's Disease

Scandinavian Journal of Haematology, 1983
A panel of previously characterized monoclonal antibodies: B67.6, OKT3, OKT4, B53.4, Leu3a, OKT8, Leu2a, OKM1, M12 and B52.1 were used as a probe to assess mononuclear cells in peripheral blood (PB), lymph nodes (LN) and spleens of untreated patients with Hodgkin's disease (HD).

The preferential accumulation of helper‐inducer T lymphocytes in inflammatory lesions: evidence for regulation by selective endothelial and homotypic adhesion

European Journal of Immunology, 1988
AbstractThe mechanisms which lead to the accumulation of T lymphocytes into inflammatory lesions are not clearly understood. We have previously shown that synovial CD4 T lymphocytes are mostly CDw29UCHL1 (helper‐inducer cells) and very few carry the CD45R antigen which identifies the suppressor‐inducer subset.

Abnormal Function of CD4+ Helper/Inducer T Lymphocytes in a Patient With Widespread Human Papillomavirus Type 3-Related Infection

Archives of Dermatology, 1990
• Human papillomavirus-induced infections may be associated with cellular immunodeficiency. However, very little is known about the dysfunctional interactions among T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, and antigen-presenting cells. A 30-year-old heterosexual man with a 10-year history of persistent multiple refractory flat wart lesions containing human ...

Chemoattractant lymphokines specific for the helper/inducer T-lymphocyte subset

Cellular Immunology, 1985
The cellular content of T-lymphocyte-rich inflammatory sites is dependent in part on the in situ elaboration of chemoattractant factors. We have previously described three T-lymphocyte-specific chemoattractant lymphokines; a chemokinetic factor, lymphocyte chemoattractant factor (LCF, MW 56,000), and two distinct lymphocyte migration inhibitory factors

Unusual Lack of the Epitope Recognized by OKT4 on the Helper/Inducer T Lymphocytes

Pediatrics International, 1985
AbstractLack of the epitope recognized by OKT4 monoclonal antibody on the helper/inducer T lymphocytes in a 14‐year‐old boy with IgA nephritis is described. The lymphocytes reacted normally with OKT3 /Leu4 and OKT8/αLeu2a monoclonal antibodies but not with OKT4 monoclonal antibody.

Abnormal distribution of the helper-inducer and suppressor-inducer T-lymphocyte subsets in the rheumatoid joint

Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology, 1987
T lymphocytes can be divided into two main phenotypic populations, CD4 and CD8. These can be further subdivided into 2H4, 4B4, or UCHL1 subsets by appropriate monoclonal antibodies. We have investigated these subsets in the synovial fluid of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and have found (i) a virtual absence of CD4+ 2H4+ and the marked reduction of

Expression of c-myc in Stimulated T Lymphocytes of the Helper/Inducer Phenotype Producing Lymphokine(s) Supporting Multilineage Colony Formation

Acta Haematologica, 1986
Phytohemagglutinin (PHA) renders human peripheral T lymphocytes competent to replicate their DNA and divide. The stimulation of peripheral T cells of the T4 phenotype by PHA, which appears to be a transcription-dependent event, leads to the production and release of lymphokines supporting proliferation and differentiation of human pluripotent stem ...

Infiltration of the lower respiratory tract by helper/inducer t lymphocytes in htlv-1-associated adult t-cell leukemia/lymphoma

The American Journal of Medicine, 1991
The human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is the causative agent of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), a disorder in which peripheral blood and multiple organs are infiltrated by malignantly transformed T lymphocytes. We investigated the nature of pulmonary disease in a patient with serologic evidence of HTLV-1 infection.
