Infiltration of the lower respiratory tract by helper/inducer t lymphocytes in htlv-1-associated adult t-cell leukemia/lymphoma

The American Journal of Medicine, 1991
The human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is the causative agent of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), a disorder in which peripheral blood and multiple organs are infiltrated by malignantly transformed T lymphocytes. We investigated the nature of pulmonary disease in a patient with serologic evidence of HTLV-1 infection.

T cytotoxic and helper cells are markedly increased, and T suppressor and inducer cells are markedly decreased, in rheumatoid synovial fluids.

Arthritis & Rheumatism, 1987
Synovial fluid lymphocytes and paired peripheral blood lymphocytes from 28 patients with rheumatoid arthritis were analyzed by 2-dimensional flow cytometry.

Radiosensitivity of CD4 or CD8 positive human T-lymphocytes by an in vitro colony formation assay.

Radiation Research, 1990
The recent development of an in vitro lymphocyte colony assay makes it possible to examine variations in the radiosensitivity of humans using peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) instead of the skin fibroblast assay. Our recent study (M.

Studies of CD4+ (Helper/Inducer) T Lymphocytes in Autoimmune Thyroid Disease: Demonstration of Specific Induction in Response to Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) In Vitro and Its Relationship with Thyroid Status In Vivo

Thyroid, 1991
We have studied by flow cytometric analysis the antigen specific activation of CD4+ (helper/inducer) T lymphocytes by purified human thyroid peroxidase (TPO). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were obtained from 26 patients with Graves' disease (GD), 16 with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), 7 with nontoxic nodular goiter (NG), and 14 normal subjects (N).

Alloantigen-specific cytotoxic and suppressor T lymphocytes are derived from phenotypically distinct precursors.

Journal of Immunology, 1983
Although Leu-2+ (OKT8+) T cells activated in the mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) mediate both alloantigen-specific cytotoxicity and suppression of alloantigen-induced proliferation, it is not known whether these functions derive from a single cell type ...

Persistent noncytopathic infection of normal human T lymphocytes with AIDS-associated retrovirus.

Science, 1985
Infection of normal peripheral blood T cells by the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)-associated retrovirus (ARV) was evaluated in long-term cultures of helper-inducer T cells (T4 cells).

Preferential activation of helper/inducer T lymphocytes in autoimmune chronic active hepatitis.

Clinical and experimental immunology, 1987
We found a significant increase of activated circulating T lymphocytes expressing interleukin 2 receptor (IL-2r) (mean +/- s.e.m. 11.0 +/- 1.1%) or DR antigen (5.0 +/- 0.49%) in patients with autoimmune chronic active hepatitis (CAH) starting in childhood when compared to healthy controls (0.14 +/- 0.09%, P less than 0.001 and 2.8 +/- 0.06%, P less ...

Phenotypic changes in a CD4+ lymphocyte subset correlate with a conversion from suppressor to helper inducer function.

Immunology, 1990
The monoclonal antibodies WR16 (CD45RA) and WR19 were used to isolate two reciprocal subsets of CD4 lymphocytes by negative selection. The CD4+/WR16-/WR19+ subset exhibited helper-inducer activity in a pokeweed mitogen (PWM)-driven Ig secretion assay, whereas the CD4+/WR16+/WR19- subset showed suppressor activity.

Infiltration of helper/inducer T lymphocytes heralds central nervous system damage in human T-cell leukemia virus infection.

The American journal of pathology, 1992
Cellular infiltrates in new and old lesions in two cases of human T-cell leukemia virus associated myelopathy (HAM) were analyzed with anti-CD3 antibody and OPD4 antibody recognizing CD4 + CD45RO + T lymphocytes. A subset of CD4 lymphocytes with helper/inducer function and labeled with OPD4 constitutes up to 65% of CD3 cells in new lesions in the pons ...
