Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

The effect of non-singular term (T-stress) on mode I/III cracking parameters of brittle materials, Numerical and experimental study using different beam and disc shape specimens made of marble rock

open access: yesForces in Mechanics
This study focuses on less-studied mode I/III fracture cracking behaviour. Seven specimens (ENDC, DNDC, SCB, ENDB, ATPB, TPB-IC, and SENB) were analyzed numerically and experimentally. Results show in pure mode-I, the specimens show identical KIc values (

Validation of a finite element model for fracture mechanics specimens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Single parameter formulations have shown to be insufficient to describe constraint effects in fracture mechanics specimens. This has lead researchers to a two parameter approach like the J-Q theory. In order to investigate constraint effects, the authors

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Positive Role of Trichoderma harzianum in Increasing Plant Tolerance to Abiotic Stresses: A Review

open access: yesAntioxidants
As a beneficial fungus, Trichoderma harzianum (T. harzianum) has been widely applied for growth promotion and biocontrol. Recently, it has attracted much attention with regard to improving stress tolerance in plants under abiotic stress.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Fracture and contact problems for an elastic wedge [PDF]

open access: yes
The plane elastostatic contact problem for an infinite elastic wedge of arbitrary angle is discussed. The medium is loaded through a frictionless rigid wedge of a given symmetric profile.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Neuron impairment or loss in brain may be responsible for type 2 diabetes and essential hypertension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Type 2 diabetes and essential hypertension are both very common chronic diseases. Type 2 diabetes is often associated with hypertension, but the exact causes of them are unknown.
