Global Warming Affects the Pathogenesis of Important Fish Diseases in European Aquaculture
The effect of global warming on pathogens and their fish hosts that could exacerbate the negative outcomes for aquaculture. Changes in farming practices and the development of innovative mitigation tools may prove essential to cope with the effects and impacts of rising water temperatures on fish diseases in Europe.

Comparative genomic analysis and molecular examination of the diversity of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli isolates from Chile [PDF]
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is one of the most common diarrheal pathogens in the low- and middle-income regions of the world, however a systematic examination of the genomic content of isolates from Chile has not yet been undertaken.

The Diverse Roles of the Histone‐Like Nucleoid Structuring (H‐NS) Protein in Vibrio parahaemolyticus
The histone‐like nucleoid structuring (H‐NS) protein is a global transcriptional regulator critical for bacterial genome organization and gene expression. In Vibrio parahaemolyticus, H‐NS represses virulence factors such as thermostable direct hemolysin (TDH), type III secretion systems (T3SS1/T3SS2), and type VI secretion systems (T6SS1/T6SS2).

We assembled four Cardinium hertigii draft genomes: cEina3 causes cytoplasmic incompatibility, cEhis1 induces parthenogenesis, cEper2 is associated with parthenogenesis, and cEina2 infects asymptomatically. All four strains are closely related and hosted by Encarsia parasitoid wasps, but key differences exist, including their metabolic potential and ...

Multidrug-resistant plasmids repress chromosomally encoded T6SS to enable their dissemination [PDF]
Acinetobacter baumannii ( Ab ) is a nosocomial pathogen with one of the highest rates of multidrug resistance (MDR). This is partially due to transmissible plasmids. Many Ab strains harbor a constitutively active type VI secretion ...

Genomic Features Of A Bumble Bee Symbiont Reflect Its Host Environment [PDF]
Here, we report the genome of one gammaproteobacterial member of the gut microbiota, for which we propose the name >Candidatus Schmidhempelia bombi,> that was inadvertently sequenced alongside the genome of its host, the bumble bee, Bombus impatiens ...

T3SS is a dedicated machinery that mediates interactions between bacteria and eukaryotic cells, providing a functional interface in pathogenic or symbiotic associations. Phylogenetic analyses and T3SS‐gene synteny revealed nine gene clusters, with no needle protein gene (sctF). However, an orphan CDS encoding a putative SctF was found.

Aggregatibacter aphrophilus T6SS Effectors in Host–Bacterial Interactions
Aggregatibacter aphrophilus is the only known oral bacterium with a functional type VI secretion system (T6SS) that acts against Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans .

Phenotypic and Genotypic Profile of Enterobacteriaceae Isolated at a Teaching Hospital in Ghana
This study identified a significant prevalence of antimicrobial resistance determinants within Enterobacteriaceae isolates, with particular emphasis on those producing extended‐spectrum β‐lactamases (ESBL). These isolates harbored diverse antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), plasmid replicons, and virulence factors (VFs), highlighting the imperative for

T6SS in plant pathogens: unique mechanisms in complex hosts
ABSTRACT Type VI secretion systems (T6SSs) are complex molecular machines that allow bacteria to deliver toxic effector proteins to neighboring bacterial and eukaryotic cells. Although initial work focused on the T6SS as a virulence mechanism of human pathogens, the field shifted to examine the use of ...
