Phytochemical constituents and in vitro antioxidant capacity of Tabernaemontana catharinensis A. DC
Free Radicals and Antioxidants, 2013Abstract Introduction Free radicals induce numerous diseases by lipid peroxidation, protein peroxidation, and DNA damage. It has been reported that numerous plant extracts have antioxidant activities to scavenge free radicals. In this present study we determined the in vitro antioxidant capacity and quantified of total phenolics, flavonoids, tannins

Tabernaemontana catharinensis (Apocynaceae) is a medicinal plant used for the treatment of painful and inflammatory disorders. Here, we investigated the antinociceptive potential of the ethyl acetate fraction (Eta) from T. catharinensis leaves and assessed its toxic effects in mice to validate its popular use.Adult male Swiss mice (30-35g) were used ...

AbstractPlants produce a high diversity of metabolites that can act as regulators of cholinergic dysfunction. Among plants, the potential of species of the genus Tabernaemontana to treat neurological disorders has been linked to iboga-type alkaloids that are biosynthesized by those species.

In the present work the antioxidant and antimycobacterial activities were determined for extracts from Tabernaemontana catharinensis. The extracts' global yields were obtained using supercritical CO2 plus cosolvent. The cosolvents ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, methanol, and water and their mixtures were used.

Plant compounds have been identified as new drug prototypes. In this line, this work aimed to isolate the indole alkaloid affinisine from Tabernaemontana catharinensis and test its antitumor activity. The alkaloid was isolated by silica gel open column chromatography from the ethanolic extract of the stem of T. catharinensis.
