Dynamics of history-dependent perceptual judgment
Identical physical inputs can evoke non-identical percepts. Here, the authors investigate the sources of such variability and find that rats and humans, trained to judge tactile vibration strength, express a robust sequential effect that could be modeled

Effects of fusion between tactile and proprioceptive inputs on tactile perception. [PDF]
Tactile perception is typically considered the result of cortical interpretation of afferent signals from a network of mechanical sensors underneath the skin.

Visuo-tactile heading perception
We investigated heading perception from visual-only (optic flow), tactile-only (tactile flow), or bimodal self-motion stimuli in different conditions varying in head and eye position. Overall, heading perception was body or world centered and non-Bayes optimal and revealed a centripetal bias.

Manipulating Underfoot Tactile Perceptions of Flooring Materials in Augmented Virtuality
Underfoot haptics, a largely unexplored area, offers rich tactile information close to that of hand-based interactions. Haptic feedback gives a sense of physicality to virtual environments, making for a more realistic and immersive experience.

Embodied Active Tactile Perception
Abstract Tactile perception plays an important role in an agent safely interacting with the environment while acquiring information about it. Bio-inspired robotics opens up possibilities for a new paradigm leveraging the morphology of the body, which filters the tactile information in physical interactions and enables investigations of ...

Auditory-tactile music perception [PDF]
The coupled perception of sound and vibration is a well-known phenomenon during live pop or organ concerts. However, even during a symphonic concert in a classical hall, sound can excite perceivable vibrations at the body surface. However, the concert visitor might not be aware of those vibrations, because the tactile percept is integrated with the ...

From finger friction to brain activation: Tactile perception of the roughness of gratings
The formation of tactile perception is related to skin receptors and the cerebral cortex. In order to systematically study the tactile perception from finger friction to the brain response, a 32-channel Brain Products system and two tri-axial force ...
