In this paper, we present a novel event-driven Dynamic Tactile Sensor (DTS) for artificial devices. The sensor is based on the POSFET (Piezoelectric-Oxide-Semiconductor-Field-Effect-Transistor) as the tactile sensing device with the change detector (CD) circuit of the DVS (Dynamic Vision Sensor) [1] as a readout circuit.

Tactile sensor pad: shape recognition
Proceedings of Tenth International Symposium on Intelligent Control, 2002Most robot tactile sensing research has focused on object shape recognition with tactile sensors. In this paper we examine the model of a tactile pad sensor, assumed to be a finite dimension medium. The model of the tactile pad sensor is obtained using an integral relation between the boundary conditions and the stress tensor.

We have developed a finger-shaped sensor array (BioTacĀ®) that provides simultaneous information about contact forces, microvibrations and thermal fluxes, mimicking the full cutaneous sensory capabilities of the human finger. For many tasks, such as identifying objects or maintaining stable grasp, these sensory modalities are synergistic.
