Insect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.Observed butterfly richness was highest in moderately protected areas. During the dry season, vegetation productivity increased butterfly richness while human population density reduced it. Moderately protected areas supported high butterfly abundance and a high proportion of host‐specialist species.
