THE GLOBAL TANDEM-X DEM: PRODUCTION STATUS AND FIRST VALIDATION RESULTS [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2012
The TanDEM-X mission will derive a global digital elevation model (DEM) with satellite SAR interferometry. Two radar satellites (TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X) will map the Earth in a resolution and accuracy with an absolute height error of 10m and a relative ...

POTENTIAL OF MULTITEMPORAL TANDEM-X DERIVED CROP SURFACE MODELS FOR MAIZE GROWTH MONITORING [PDF]

open access: diamondThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2016
In this study, first results of retrieving plant heights of maize fields from multitemporal TanDEM-X images are shown. Three TanDEM-X dual polarization spotlight acquisitions were taken over a rural area in Germany in the growing season 2014.

TanDEM-X: DEM Calibration Concept [PDF]

open access: yesIGARSS 2008 - 2008 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2008
The TanDEM-X mission will derive a global digital elevation model (DEM) with satellite SAR interferometry. The aimed accuracies are an absolute height error of 10 m and a relative height error of 2 m for 90% of the data. This requires a correction of the elevation heights after interferometric processing by residual systematic DEM errors.

Towards a Large-Scale 3D Modeling of the Built Environment - Joint Analysis of TanDEM-X, Sentinel-2 and Open Street Map Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Continental to global scale mapping of the human settlement extent based on earth observation satellite data has made considerable progress. Nevertheless, the current approaches only provide a two-dimensional representation of the built environment ...

Elevation changes of the Holm Land Ice Cap, northeast Greenland, from 1978 to 2012–2015, derived from high-resolution digital elevation models

open access: yesArctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research, 2018
Greenland’s peripheral glaciers and ice caps are key indicators of climate change in the Arctic, but quantitative observational data of their recent evolution are sparse.

Fusion of TanDEM-X and Cartosat-1 Elevation Data Supported by NeuralNetwork-Predicted Weight Maps [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Volume 144, October 2018, Pages 285-297, 2018
Recently, the bistatic SAR interferometry mission TanDEM-X provided a global terrain map with unprecedented accuracy. However, visual inspection and empirical assessment of TanDEM-X elevation data against high-resolution ground truth illustrates that the quality of the DEM decreases in urban areas because of SAR-inherent imaging properties.

Mapping Retrogressive Thaw Slumps Using Single-Pass TanDEM-X Observations

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2020
Vast areas of the Arctic host ice-rich permafrost, which is becoming increasingly vulnerable to terrain-altering thermokarst in a warming climate. Among the most rapid and dramatic changes are retrogressive thaw slumps.

TanDEM-X Long-Term System Performance After 10 Years of Operation

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2021
The TanDEM-X mission, formed by the TanDEM-X satellite in cooperation with its almost identical twin TerraSAR-X (TSX), has mainly been designed to acquire bistatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images of the Earth. Initiated in 2010, the primary mission

A Fully Automatic Algorithm for Editing the TanDEM-X Global DEM

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
The spaceborne mission TanDEM-X successfully acquired and processed a global Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from interferometric bistatic SAR data at X band. The product has been delivered in 2016 and is characterized by an unprecedented vertical accuracy.
