A Case of Tandem Lesions in the Extracranial Internal Carotid Artery

Archives of Surgery, 1983
The tortuous internal carotid artery is occasionally encountered during carotid endarterectomy. While much has been written about the hemodynamic problems associated with the tortuous vessel, a second atherosclerotic plaque in the kinked portion of the artery has not been reported previously, to our knowledge.

Double Eversion Carotid Endarterectomy of Tandem Carotid Lesions

Annals of Vascular Surgery, 2014
We describe an original method to treat tandem lesions of the internal carotid artery (ICA) and the common carotid artery (CCA). In this manuscript, we describe a "double eversion carotid endarterectomy" technique (DECE) and report our results.A retrospective review in the medical records of patients that underwent DECE over a 15-year period was ...

Management and Treatment of Tandem Carotid Lesions

Annals of Vascular Surgery
Tandem lesions of the proximal aortic branch vessels and carotid bifurcation are uncommon. While management strategies vary, a hybrid approach of carotid endarterectomy with retrograde common carotid artery (CCA) or innominate artery (IA) stenting has become a mainstay of treatment. The purpose of this article was to provide a review of the literature,

Tandem Lesions of the Internal Carotid Arteries and Their Management

1979
The significance of the combination of two or more vascular lesions (stenoses and occlusions) causing disturbances in the cerebral circulation has long been understood. Therefore, it is not surprising that, in one fifth of the patients with internal carotid occlusion a severe stenosis can be found in the contralateral internal carotid artery.

Carotid Artery Tandem Lesions Frequency and Consequences for Endarterectomy

The Neuroradiology Journal, 1998
We determined the frequency of tandem carotid lesions within the carotid siphon, common carotid artery and proximal intracerebral arteries as well as incidental intracranial saccular aneurysms. We also determined the consequence of a tandem lesion on the surgeon's decision-making process when a hemodynamically significant stenosis or aneurysm was ...

[Endovascular treatment in cerebral artery tandem lesions].

Beijing da xue xue bao. Yi xue ban = Journal of Peking University. Health sciences, 2016
To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of endovascular treatment in solving symptomatic cerebral artery tandem lesions. From June 2012 to February 2014, 12 cases (24 lesions) with symptomatic cerebral artery tandem lesions were accepted for the endovascular treatment.

Tandem Lesions Are the Major Products Resulting from a Pyrimidine Nucleobase Radical

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2003
Nucleobase radicals (e.g., 1) are the major family of reactive intermediates formed when DNA is exposed to gamma-radiolysis. Independent generation of 1 in chemically synthesized oligonucleotides reveals that formation of this nucleobase radical under aerobic conditions results in the formation of tandem lesions approximately 65% of the time.

Tandem Lesions and Other Products in X-Irradiated DNA Oligomers

Radiation Research, 1998
Free radicals interact with DNA bases to produce secondary radicals. The secondary radicals are reactive species and tend to interact with neighboring bases, resulting in DNA lesions with two adjacent modified bases. In this study the DNA oligomers d(CpApTpG) and d(CpGpTpA) were exposed to free radicals generated in anoxic aqueous solution by X ...

Theoretical study of the tandem cross-linkage lesion in DNA

Chemical Physics Letters, 2006
Abstract The intramolecular radical cross-link reactions of 8,5′-cyclo-purines and 6,5′-cyclo-pyrimidines have been studied using the DFT B3LYP formalism with 6-31+G(d,p) and 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets, and including CPCM bulk solvation effects. In aqueous solution, the largest free energy barrier is 11.1 kcal/mol for dT  → 6,5′-cycloT and the ...

RARE INTRAMEDULLARY TANDEM LESION ON MRI DUE TO SPINAL ARTERIOVENOUS FISTULA

Neurology, 2008
Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) rarely presents as multiple signal-hyperintense intramedullary lesions on T2-weighted imaging, a finding more commonly seen in multiple neoplastic diseases like lymphoma or in demyelinating, inflammatory, infectious, or multilevel degenerative diseases.
