Performance Analysis of Mobile Cloud Computing With Bursty Demand: A Tandem Queue Model

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2022
Resource-constrained end devices can offload computation to backend clouds. The stochastic wireless channel that an end device is connected to can introduce bursty computation demand to the cloud. Specifically, under good channel conditions, a device can transmit more data to the cloud, which consequently yields higher instantaneous computation demand.

Control of a non-stationary tandem queue model of the airport surface

2017 American Control Conference (ACC), 2017
Tandem queues have been used to model congestion in a wide variety of systems such as communication networks, manufacturing systems, supply chains and traffic flows. This paper considers the optimal control of tandem queues in order to mitigate surface congestion at large airports.

A Tandem Queue Model for Performance Analysis in Multihop Wireless Networks

2007 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference, 2007
We present a tandem queueing model for performance analysis and engineering of multihop wireless networks. To solve the queueing model, a direct (or exact) method and a decomposition method are proposed. The proposed decomposition method reduces the computational complexity significantly which requires us to solve L single queues instead of a full ...

Reinforcement Learning with Model-Based Approaches for Dynamic Resource Allocation in a Tandem Queue

2021
We consider three-tier network architecture modeled with two physical nodes in tandem where an autonomous agent controls the number of active resources on each node. We analyse the learning of auto-scaling strategies in order to optimise both performance and energy consumption of the whole system.

A tandem queueing system with applications to pricing strategy

open access: yesJournal of Industrial and Management Optimization, 2009
In this paper, we analyze a Markovian queueing system with multiple types of customers and two queues in tandem. All customers have to go through two stages of services.

Tandem Queue Models with Applications to QoS Routing in Multihop Wireless Networks

IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, 2008
We consider the problem of quality of service (QoS) routing in multi-hop wireless networks where data are transmitted from a source node to a destination node via multiple hops. The routing component of a QoS-routing algorithm essentially involves the link and path metric calculation which depends on many factors such as the physical and link layer ...

A spatiotemporal model for the LTE uplink: Spatially interacting tandem queues approach

2017 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2017
With the proliferation of the Internet-of-things (IoT), there is an undeniable consensus that cellular LTE networks will have to support a dramatically larger number of uplink connections. This is true since most of the devices to be added incur machine-type communications which is dominantly upstream.

Efficient Algorithms for Tandem Queueing system simulation [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Mathematics Letters, 1994
Serial and parallel algorithms for simulation of tandem queueing systems with infinite buffers are presented, and their performance are examined. It is shown that the algorithms which are based on a simple computational procedure involve low time and ...
