Obtaining Ellipse Common Tangent Line Equations by the Rolling Tangent Line Method
Lecture Notes of the Institute for Computer Sciences, Social-Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering, 2018In the field of image processing and machine vision, it is sometimes necessary to obtain common tangent line equations and tangent point coordinates from ellipses. A rolling tangent line method was proposed to obtain the 4 common tangent line equations and 8 tangent point coordinates from two ellipses in this paper.

Teachers’ conceptions of tangent line
Journal of Mathematical Behavior, 2013Abstract In order to study the conceptions, and their evolutions, of the tangent line to a curve an updating workshop which took place in Mexico was designed for upper secondary school teachers. This workshop was planned using the methodology of cooperative learning, scientific debate and auto reflection (ACODESA) and the conception-knowing-concept ...

Students’ Evolving Meaning About Tangent Line with the Mediation of a Dynamic Geometry Environment and an Instructional Example Space [PDF]
In this paper I report a lengthy episode from a teaching experiment in which 15 Year 12 Greek students negotiated their definitions of tangent line to a function graph.

Fuzzy tangent line to a fuzzy circle
Fuzzy Optimization and Decision MakingFuzzy geometry extends the notion of a fuzzy number to geometric objects like points, lines, line segments, angles etc. and investigates how and to which extend results of traditional Euclidean geometry can be transferred to this setting. This is not at all straightforward as equivalent properties of Euclidean geometry will often result in non ...

Tangent Lines without Calculus
The Mathematics Teacher, 2008A problem that can help high school students develop the concept of instantaneous velocity and connect it with the slope of a tangent line to the graph of position versus time. It also gives a method for determining the tangent line to the graph of a polynomial function at any point without using calculus.

In Section 9.1 we plot the (moving) tangent line and Frenet frame field for various types of equations of a curve; the equations of a tractrix are also derived. We then consider applications of tangent and normal lines to a curve.
