A tangent subsolar merging line

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1990
We describe a global magnetospheric model with a single subsolar merging line whose position is determined neither locally by the relative orientations and strengths of the merging fields nor globally by the orientation of a separator line—the governing parameters of most previous models—but by the condition of tangential contact between the external ...

Constraint tangent distance for on-line character recognition

Proceedings of 13th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 1996
In online character recognition we can observe two kinds of intra-class variations: small geometric deformations and completely different writing styles. We propose a new approach to deal with these problems by defining an extension of tangent distance, well known in off-line character recognition.

Streak Lines as Tangent Curves of a Derived Vector Field

IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2010
Characteristic curves of vector fields include stream, path, and streak lines. Stream and path lines can be obtained by a simple vector field integration of an autonomous ODE system, i.e., they can be described as tangent curves of a vector field. This facilitates their mathematical analysis including the extraction of core lines around which stream or

Computing common tangents without a separating line

1995
Given two disjoint convex polygons in standard representations, one can compute outer common tangents in logarithmic time without first obtaining a separating line. If the polygons are not disjoint, there is an additional factor of the logarithm of the intersection or convex hull, whichever is smaller.

Areas Swept out by Tangent Line Segments

Mathematics Magazine, 1954
The author happened upon the formulas for area presented in this paper when working on an ergodic problem proposed to him by Professor B. H. Neumann. A,search of the literature reveals that the planar case implies Guldin's Formula and is practically equivalent to it.

Circular array based on the tangent line method

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
The tangent line method (TLM) is an array signal processing for generating curvilinear acoustic beams. The curvilinear beam is generated as an envelope of tangent lines to the curve. The tangent lines are produced as mainlobes of the far-field delay-and-sum beamformer.

Microphone array based on tangent line method

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
The tangent line method (TLM) was originally proposed for loudspeaker arrays to generate curvilinear acoustic beams. In this study, the TLM was applied to a microphone array. Based on reciprocity, the TLM-based microphone array can be used to form curvilinear beams. A curvilinear beam is produced as an envelope for the tangent lines.
