Tangent Stiffness in Plane Frames
Journal of the Structural Division, 1973With reference to planar framed structures, a tangent stiffness matrix is derived that does not require any approximation beyond those used in the conventional beam-column theory. The matrix is given in such a form as to clearly separate the contributions of large rigid body displacements from elastic and locally nonlinear effects, and its numerical ...

The tangent planes to a degenerate surface
Mathematical Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, 19321. In the Lehrbuch der abzählenden Methoden Zeuthen considers the problem of determining the nature and multiplicity of the tangent lines and planes to a degenerate surface in ordinary space. The surface φ in question consists of n arbitrary planes; these meet in pairs, forming double lines, and in threes, forming triple points. The tangent cone to φ

Kirchhoff-Tangent Plane Approximation
1994Along with the perturbation theory the geometrical optics (quasiclassical) approximation represents another general approach in analyzing the scattering processes. The method may be employed when characteristic spatial scales of irregularities somewhat exceed the radiation wavelength.

Symmetric planes with non-classical tangent translation planes
Geometriae Dedicata, 1995This article gives examples of 8-dimensional symmetric planes with nondesarguesian tangent translation planes. Up to now all known examples of (nonabelian) symmetric planes are open subplanes of a classical projective plane over an alternative real division algebra \(F\). That is, the algebra \(F\) is the reals \(\mathbb{R}\), the complexes \(\mathbb{C}

Surface grid generation in the tangent plane
Applied Mathematics and Computation, 1993Recent work of \textit{S. Steinberg} and \textit{P. J. Roache} [Numer. Methods Partial Differ. Equations 2, 71-96 (1986; Zbl 0623.65127)] has shown that parametric surface grid generation algorithms are severely limited by the bifurcation of solutions of the discretized equations. This becomes apparent if the given surface has points of high curvature.

Double tangent planes to a space curve
Siberian Mathematical Journal, 1989Let c: \(S^ 1\to {\mathbb{R}}^ 3\) be a smooth curve, P an affine plane in \({\mathbb{R}}^ 3\). The total order of contact of P to c is the sum of orders of contact of P to c at all contact points. Let A(2,3) be the set of affine planes in \(R^ 3\), and \(A_ r\) the subset consisting of those planes whose total order of contact to c is equal to r.

Inversive planes with circles determined by tangents
Rendiconti del Circolo Matematico di Palermo, 1982In an inversive planeJ, one derived affine plane is such that every circle is uniquely determined by straight line tangents. The validity of 4-point Pascal conditions on one of the circles then plays a role in coordinatization ofJ.

Edgels and Tangent Planes in Image Warping
1996In this paper we first describe generally the uses of thin-plate splines for image deformation. We then go on to demonstrate why we feel that incorporating edgel information into a warp has great potential. An extension to the edgel method of Bookstein and Green (1993a,b) is outlined for use in three dimensions.
