Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation and Analysis of Non-Newtonian Drilling Fluid Flow and Cuttings Transport in an Eccentric Annulus

open access: yesMathematics
This study examines the flow behavior as well as the cuttings transport of non-Newtonian drilling fluid in the geometry of an eccentric annulus, accounting for what impacts drill pipe rotation might have on fluid velocity, as well as annular eccentricity

Minimum power consumption for drag reduction on a circular cylinder by tangential surface motion

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the effect of a prescribed tangential velocity on the drag force on a circular cylinder in a spanwise uniform cross flow. Using a combination of theoretical and numerical techniques we make an attempt at determining the optimal tangential ...

Causal‐Guided Ultra‐Long‐Term Time Series Forecasting Via Anticipated Covariates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Often treated as unknown, information from the future remains underutilized. We demonstrate that in a coupled dynamical system, providing the future state of the effect enables accurate forecasting of the cause for a long timesteps. A time series forecasting paradigm that introduces anticipated covariates to represent such known future states is ...

Axial Variations and Entry Effects in a Pressure Screen

open access: yes, 2007
Pressure screens are used for contaminant removal and fibre length fractionation in the production of pulp and paper products. Axial variations and entry effects in the screen are known to occur and these variations have not been adequately quantified.

Enhancing Electrical Impedance Based Deformation Sensing with Dielectric Current Guide

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a dielectric‐based field manipulation strategy for electrical impedance tomography in soft robotics. By using silicone as a passive electric field guide, improved deformation sensing accuracy and reduced interference are achieved without embedding conductive components.

Conformal Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces: A Cylindrical Geometry Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Cylindrical reconfigurable intelligent surfaces are explored for low‐complexity beam steering using one‐bit meta‐atoms. A multi‐level modeling approach, including optimization‐based synthesis, demonstrates that even minimal hardware can support directive scattering.

INFLUENCE OF MOISTURE CONTENT ON LONGITUDINAL, RADIAL, AND TANGENTIAL ULTRASONIC VELOCITY FOR TWO BRAZILIAN WOOD SPECIES

open access: yes, 2015
The effects of MC on longitudinal, radial, and tangential ultrasonic wave velocity and on the respective terms of the stiffness matrix were examined for Brazilian pine (Araucaria angustifolia) and cupiuba (Goupia glabra).
