Tangential velocity effects in gas-surface scattering

Chemical Physics Letters, 1974
Abstract An analytical surface model that alters the tangential velocity component by a periodic, time-dependent force and reflects the normal velocity component specularly is presented. Single and double lobe distributions with and without reverse scattering are obtained.

Robot trajectory planning by assigning positions and tangential velocities

Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, 2013
A technique for the robot trajectory planning is proposed. The technique mainly consists in controlling a manipulator by assigning not only the way points on the path but also the geometrical tangent of the desired path shape at each of those points. This is achieved by assigning to the control system not only the joint variables { q i } , but also the ...

Effect of particle tangential velocity on erosion ripple formation

Wear, 1995
Abstract The formation of ripples on the surface of pure aluminum during solid particle erosion was studied using sharp alumina and spherical glass beads as erodent particles in an air-blast type system. A new laboratory technique controlled the tangential velocity of the erodent particles relative to the samples with their placement on a velocity ...

On tangential velocity discontinuities being coincident with stress discontinuities

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1982
Abstract Whether or not in a slip-line field a stress discontinuity can be simultaneously a velocity discontinuity has been discussed since the late 1940s. According to the usual “jump” conditions it is not impossible to have a tangential velocity component across a stress discontinuity.

Radiation of Hydromagnetic Waves from a Tangential Velocity Discontinuity

The Physics of Fluids, 1971
An outgoing group velocity criterion is used to determine the regions of existence of radiation modes for a tangential velocity discontinuity in a collisionless hydromagnetic régime. It is shown how previously published results must be corrected.

CFD modelling of velocity distribution in tangential coal-fired flame

2011 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques, 2011
A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the velocity distribution of the tangential coal-fired flame in an industrial boiler has been established. The mesh of the furnace was generated based on the geometric structure of the furnace. Typical operation parameters of the boiler and normal boundary conditions of the velocity field were applied to ...

Anisotropic stellar systems with tangentially biased velocity dispersion

1997
This paper provides a simple general procedure to construct self-consistent spherical equilibrium models of stellar systems populated by stars in quasi-circular orbits. The focus on Maxwellian-like distributions in the relevant velocity space and the use of the epicyclic expansion allow us to work with physically intuitive models.

Dynamic Characteristics of Finite Porous Journal Bearings Considering Tangential Velocity Slip

Journal of Tribology, 1984
A theoretical investigation to find out the dynamic characteristics of porous journal bearings of finite length has been carried out considering the Beavers-Joseph crierion of velocity slip at the bearing film interface. It has been shown that the effect of velocity slip on the dynamic characteristics is small.

Asymptotic Behavior of Diffusion of Tangential Velocity Discontinuity in Rarefied Gas

The Physics of Fluids, 1968
A treatment of the diffusion of a tangential discontinuity in flow velocity is given for the linearized Boltzmann-Krook equation, with emphasis on the asymptotic behavior for large values of time. The connection with the general asymptotic theory of Grad is also discussed.

Effect of Opposing Tangential Primary Air Jets on the Flue Gas Velocity Deviation for Large-Scale Tangentially Fired Boilers

Energy & Fuels, 2009
An experimental and numerical study on the effect of opposing tangential primary air jets with different biased angles on aerodynamic fields in the furnace and the flue gas velocity deviation in the horizontal flue gas pass was carried out in a tangentially fired boiler model of a 600 MW unit. The results show that the flow fields in the left and right
