Label-free tapered optical fiber plasmonic biosensor
Analytica Chimica Acta, 2021We designed and fabricated a novel label-free ultrasensitive tapered optical fiber (TOF) plasmonic biosensor that successfully detected a five panel of microRNAs with good selectivity. The biosensing platform integrates three different metallic nanoparticles: gold spherical nanoparticles (AuNPs), gold nanorods (AuNRs), and gold triangular nanoprisms ...

Tapered optical-fiber temperature sensor
Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 1996Optical power transmission changes of 10–20 dB have been experimentally demonstrated by varying the temperature of a tapered monomode optical fiber that is fixed to a glass plate by two drops of adhesive. The effect arises from different expansion coefficients of the glass substrate and the silica fiber. This induces microbendings in the tapered region.

Dye lasers using tapered optical fibers
Applied Optics, 1993A new type of dye laser operating in a single-mode optical fiber has been studied. The gain is produced by surrounding a tapered section of the fiber with laser dye. Interaction of the light in the fiber with the laser dye is achieved through the exposed evanescent field at the taper waist.

Tapered enlarged ends in multimode optical fibers
Applied Optics, 1982Radiation characteristics of multimode fibers with enlarged tapers were investigated on a number of samples obtained by varying the fiber drawing speed with a given law corresponding to a prefixed taper profile. The characterization of the fibers was made by near- and far-field intensity pattern measurements as well as by measuring the losses ...

Manipulation of tapered optical fibers
2009 III Conference of University of Guanajuato IEEE Students Chapter (IEEExPO), 2009Tapered optical fibers are difficult to handle when they have a diameter below 15 micrometers. Given the fragility of tapered region, an automatic mechanism to handle will assure that the optical fiber will not be broken because of shearing stress induced by manipulating if manually.

Forward Brillouin scattering in tapered optical fibers
2008 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2008We experimentally study forward Brillouin scattering in tapered fibers. Circularly symmetric acoustic phonons resonant in fibers are observed by using a novel photoacoustic measurement technique. Strong acousto-optic interaction can take place in highly tapered fibers.

Tapered Optical Fibers For Solar Energy Applications
SPIE Proceedings, 1986Opitical fibers with not uniform terminations to be used for a better collection and trasmission of light have been carefully analyzed. The coupling efficiency of a plane wave with a linearly tapered fiber has been calculated in different geometrical conditions. Developments and some interesting applications are discussed.

Correcting image distortion with fiber-optic tapers
Applied Optics, 1988We examine an ultraviolet camera used aboard a rotating spacecraft where the image motion due to spacecraft spin is canceled by synchronously stepping the image charge accumulating in a charge coupled detector. Critical to this procedure is the flattening of a velocity field associated with the spherical focal surface of the Burch configuration camera.

Ray trajectories in optical fiber tapered sections
Applied Optics, 1978Slab waveguide tapers with finite cladding thickness are analyzed using a geometrical optics approach, and the results are compared with an exact modal analysis. Iteration formulas are derived for the calculation of the propagation angles of the guided modes and the corresponding changes in the core and cladding thicknesses, assuming that the ...
