Microdrilled tapers to enhance optical fiber lasers for sensing

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
In this work, an experimental analysis of the performance of different types of quasi-randomly distributed reflectors inscribed into a single-mode fiber as a sensing mirror is presented.

Trapping and Propelling Microparticles at Long Range by Using an Entirely Stripped and Slightly Tapered No-Core Optical Fiber

open access: yesSensors, 2013
A stripped no-core optical fiber with a 125 µm diameter was transformed into a symmetric and unbroken optical fiber that tapers slightly to a 45-µm-diameter waist. The laser light can be easily launched into the no-core optical fiber.

Sub-Nanometer Acoustic Vibration Sensing Using a Tapered-Tip Optical Fiber Microcantilever

open access: yesSensors, 2023
We demonstrate a highly sensitive acoustic vibration sensor based on a tapered-tip optical fiber acting as a microcantilever. The tapered-tip fiber has a unique output profile that exhibits a circular fringe pattern, whose distribution is highly ...

Tapered optical fibers as tools for probing magneto-optical trap characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present a novel technique for measuring the characteristics of a magneto-optical trap for cold atoms by monitoring the spontaneous emission from trapped atoms coupled into the guided mode of a tapered optical nanofiber.

Tapered silicon optical fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
The tapering of silicon optical fibers is demonstrated using a fusion splicer. The silicon fibers are fabricated using a high pressure chemical deposition technique to deposit an amorphous silicon core inside a silica capillary and the tapering is performed in a separate post-process.

On-Chip Cavity Optomechanical Coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
On-chip cavity optomechanics, in which strong co-localization of light and mechanical motion is engineered, relies on efficient coupling of light both into and out of the on-chip optical resonator.

Optical fiber lasers assisted by microdrilled optical fiber tapers [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2019
In this Letter, we present an analysis of the backscattering generated in a microdrilled tapered fiber within a short-linear-cavity fiber laser. We propose and experimentally demonstrate a fiber cavity laser based on a tapered optical fiber segment that generates artificially controlled backscattering.

Low-temperature tapered-fiber probing of diamond NV ensembles coupled to GaP microcavities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this work we present a platform for testing the device performance of a cavity-emitter system, using an ensemble of emitters and a tapered optical fiber.

Source misalignment in multimode polymer tapered waveguides for optical backplanes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Polymer tapered multimode waveguides were modeled using the finite difference wide-angle beam propagation method to investigate whether tapered input waveguide couplers decreasing in width away from the waveguide entrance give improved tolerance to ...

Brillouin lasing in single-mode tapered optical fiber with inscribed fiber Bragg grating array

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
A tapered optical fiber has been manufactured with an array of fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) inscribed during the drawing process. The total fiber peak reflectivity is 5% and the reflection bandwidth is ∼3.5 nm. A coherent frequency domain reflectometry has
