Entanglement in a qubit-qubit-tardigrade system
Quantum and biological systems are seldom discussed together as they seemingly demand opposing conditions. Life is complex, ‘hot and wet’ whereas quantum objects are small, cold and well controlled.

Total RNA Extraction from Tardigrades [PDF]
Purification of high-quality total RNA from specimens is essential for many molecular techniques. In tardigrades (water bears), disruption of the cuticle is an important step in obtaining a good yield that is representative of all tissues of the animal.

Summary Many agroecosystems face nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) or potassium (K) deficiencies due to imbalanced or insufficient nutrient replenishment after biomass harvest. How this affects the symbiosis between plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and the abundance of exploration‐based AMF guilds (rhizophilic, edaphophilic and ancestral ...

Genomic Analyses of Cryptobiotic Tardigrades [PDF]
Genomics technologies, especially transcriptional profiling, allows comparisons of gene expression within and across different organisms. By the use of the model group Tardigrada, also known as water bear, we try to understand the phenomenon of ...

Microinjection of dsRNA in Tardigrades [PDF]
Classical genetic analysis in the tardigrade Hypsibius exemplaris is a challenge because these animals are parthenogens. The publication of the H. exemplaris genome has facilitated the study of targeted genes by RNA interference (RNAi), a robust mechanism to disrupt gene function. This protocol describes microinjection of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) in

Briny Biology: Nematodes From the Hypersaline Springs of the Central Namib Desert
We investigated nematode communities in from seven hypersaline desert springs in the central Namib Desert. We found nematodes in most sediment and microbial mat samples collected, with some present (although likely cryptobiotic) at electrical conductivity values exceeding 500 mS/cm.

A model study for tardigrade identification [PDF]
Using tardigrades from a single moss sample as a case study, we propose a new method for tardigrade species identification, which is often problematic, due to the low number of morphological characters.

Standardized Protocols for Soil Fauna Extraction and a Call for Cross‐Lab Implementation
We present harmonized methodologies, assembled by an international group of experts, for extracting soil‐ and litter‐inhabiting nematodes, enchytraeids, microarthropods, and larger invertebrates. The protocols are illustrated with images and videos, and include advice for overcoming the most frequent issues (’expert tips’) for increasing extraction ...

Even for tardigrades, often called the toughest animals on Earth, a hypomagnetic field (HMF) is an extreme environment. However, studies on the effect of HMF on tardigrades and other invertebrates are scarce.
