Newer targets for modulation of intraocular pressure: focus on adenosine receptor signaling pathways
Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Targets, 2014The homeostatic role of adenosine in regulating intraocular pressure (IOP) is now widely recognized, and hence, the drugs targeting adenosine receptors have become the focus of investigation. In this review, we summarize the adenosine receptor signaling pathways, which could be potential therapeutic targets for the management of glaucoma. This review ...

To determine the target intraocular pressure (IOP) level in normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) for visual field (VF) stability following trabeculectomy.Forty eyes of 40 patients who underwent trabeculectomy were enrolled in this study. Progression was determined by a decrease in the Advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study VF defect score of four or more points.

Over the past decade, results from prospective, randomized, clinical trials have confirmed the value of reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with ocular hypertension or primary open-angle glaucoma and have outlined the need to consider a target IOP in an individual glaucomatous patient and not an arbitrary value of 21 mm Hg as classically ...

Purpose To investigate if patients with exfoliation glaucoma (XFG) with cardiovascular disease (CVD) require different target intraocular pressure (IOP) compared to patients with XFG with no CVD for long-term stability. Methods A retrospective, multicenter, observational cohort analysis included consecutive patients with XFG from 9 European academic ...

On the basis of ocular perfusion pressure a new method was suggested for determining an individually endurable intraocular pressure (IOP), i.e. pressure of target. A total of 390 eyes (232 patients with primary open-angle and normal-tension glaucoma) were examined before and after conservative and surgical treatment.

[Novel therapeutic targets for reduction of intraocular pressure in primary open angle glaucoma].
[Zhonghua yan ke za zhi] Chinese journal of ophthalmology, 2016Glaucoma is a major cause of blindness in China and the world. Currently, all therapeutic means in treating open-angle glaucoma are limited to control the progression of optic neuropathy by lowering intraocular pressure (IOP). Clinically available medicines lower IOP by either enhancing the uveoscleral pathway or inhibiting aqueous humor production ...
