MODELOS CONTINGENTES DE CONOCIMIENTO PARA LA TOMA DE DECISIÓN EN MEDIO AMBIENTE. DESARROLLOS EN ECONOMÍA ECOLÓGICA/ECOSISTÉMICA

open access: yesTendencias, 2013
La toma de decisión en materia de medio ambiente requiere de un conocimiento estructurado de la materia sustantiva sobre la que actúa. Básicamente requiere de un modelo comprensivo de las relaciones entre el medio ambiente y el hombre, en sus diversas y ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Polyserine-tau interactions modulate tau fibrillization

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry
Abstract Tau aggregates are the defining feature of multiple neurodegenerative diseases and contribute to the pathology of disease. However, the molecules affecting tau aggregation in cells are unclear. We previously determined that polyserine-rich domain containing proteins enrich in tau aggregates, assemble into ...

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

UNA MENTE GENEROSA PARA UN MUNDO SISTÉMICO

open access: yesTendencias, 2013
El sistema se ha transformado, desde su formalización (Bertanlanfy, 1968), en un instrumento clave en el quehacer de muchas disciplinas. No obstante, el sentido de la utilización del concepto de sistema que ha dominado en la actividad científica ha sido ...

X-ray screening of donated wild game is insufficient to protect children from lead exposure

open access: yesDiscover Food
Worldwide hunters distribute game meat as a gesture of community bonding and as an essential nutritional resource for those facing food insecurity, especially among children and adolescents.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Slip Localization Intensification Mediated by Grain Boundary Sliding in a Polycrystalline Nickel‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The temperature dependence of fatigue behavior in nickel‐based superalloys is investigated through high‐resolution measurements of plastic localization. While increasing temperature reduces localization and enhances fatigue performance in René 88DT, Inconel 718 exhibits a sharp degradation at intermediate temperature due to intensified slip ...

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation
