An analytical comparison of coalescent-based multilocus methods: The three-taxon case [PDF]
Incomplete lineage sorting (ILS) is a common source of gene tree incongruence in multilocus analyses. A large number of methods have been developed to infer species trees in the presence of ILS. Here we provide a mathematical analysis of several coalescent-based methods.

Hydrobiological study of the small stream on the Czech–Moravian Highlands
Zoobenthos of the Fryšávka Rivulet was investigated in the years 2007–2008. Research included also physico-chemical factors of water (temperature, pH, conductivity, oxygen saturation).

High cross-taxon congruence in species diversity patterns is essential for the use of surrogate taxa in biodiversity conservation, but presence and strength of congruence in species turnover patterns and the relative contributions of abiotic ...

A critical overview of species of the genus Poa (Poaceae) in the flora of Ukraine
A brief synopsis of the genus Poa in the flora of Ukraine is presented, which includes 25 species, including those previously not reported in Ukrainian literature (P. egorovae, P. humilis, P. klokovii, P.

More Taxa Are Not Necessarily Better for the Reconstruction of Ancestral Character States [PDF]
We show that the accuracy of reconstrucing an ancestral state is not an increasing function of the size of taxon sampling.

Marine invertebrates associate with diverse microorganisms. Microorganisms even inhabit coelomic fluid (CF), namely, the fluid filling the main body cavity of echinoderms. The CF microbiota potentially impacts host health and disease.

Soil biome variation of Lupinus nipomensis in wet‐cool vs. dry‐warm microhabitats and greenhouse
Abstract Premise Environmental DNA (eDNA) can be used to determine the composition of the soil biome community, revealing beneficial and antagonistic microbes and invertebrates associated with plants. eDNA analyses can complement traditional soil community studies, offering more comprehensive information for conservation practitioners. Studies are also

Abstract Premise A universally understood, precise, and stable system of naming organisms is essential for effective scientific communication. The International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants, of which the most recently published edition is the Shenzhen Code of 2018, provides this system for algae, fungi, and plants.

Ancestral range reconstruction of Galliformes: the effects of topology and taxon sampling
We examined divergence times and biogeography of the avian order Galliformes (which, despite a nearly world‐wide distribution, includes many weak fliers), to test whether current distributions reflect vicariance or long‐distance dispersal. We also tested

Unsupervised Learning and Exploration of Reachable Outcome Space [PDF]
Performing Reinforcement Learning in sparse rewards settings, with very little prior knowledge, is a challenging problem since there is no signal to properly guide the learning process. In such situations, a good search strategy is fundamental. At the same time, not having to adapt the algorithm to every single problem is very desirable.
