The taxon cycle concept provides a geographically explicit and testable set of hypotheses for exploring the evolutionary processes underlying the distribution of species in space and time. Here, we test taxon cycle predictions within a large avian island

Religions as taxa consist of a group of adherents’ common religious knowledge and not of the religious knowledge of individuals. The beliefs and practices of individual believers, of individual adherents of a certain religion, are not decisive for the entire communication and information system “religion”, but rather the individual communities with ...

The Taxon as an Ontological Problem [PDF]
Although the term taxon is one of the most common concepts in biology, a range of its meanings cannot be comprehended by an universal definition. Usually, biologists construe their knowledge of “the same” taxon by substantially different interpretations, so they find themselves in need either to justify this “multiplication of taxon essences”, or to ...

A new taxon in the genus Neisseria
Annales de l'Institut Pasteur / Microbiologie, 1983Among 3,520 strains of Neisseria and Branhamella received in the laboratory during the last seven years, 13 could not be speciated. These 13 strains (Neisseria sp. group) were isolated from the throats of healthy children in Europe and Africa. The Neisseria sp. group oxidized glucose and maltose similarly to N. meningitidis.

Taxon sampling effects on the quantification and comparison of community phylogenetic diversity
Molecular Ecology, 2018Ecologists are increasingly making use of molecular phylogenies, especially in the fields of community ecology and conservation. However, these phylogenies are often used without full appreciation of their underlying assumptions and uncertainties.

The central and most dramatic symptom of this taxonic grouping of behaviors is that the victim breaks out of his world of normal social routines and expectations with a sudden flight into a dissociated world. Sometimes it is a literal running off, sometimes simply a mental withdrawal (as in Foulks’s cases). But regardless of which type is chosen, there

DIMENSIONAL ANALYSES OF TAXONIC DATA
Psychological Reports, 2007Principal component analysis (PCA) and common factor analysis are often used to model latent data structures. Typically, such analyses assume a single population whose correlation or covariance matrix is modelled. However, data may sometimes be unwittingly sampled from mixed populations containing a taxon (nonarbitrary subpopulation) and its ...
