Microregion – A Regional Taxon Interposed between Commune and County [PDF]
Unlike other countries belonging to the European Community, where the territorial grid was arranged in the matrix provided by the territorial units for statistics (NUTS) on five distinct hierarchical levels: macro-regions, regions, departments (districts)

Assessing Inhalation Exposures Associated with Contamination Events in Water Distribution Systems. [PDF]
When a water distribution system (WDS) is contaminated, short-term inhalation exposures to airborne contaminants could occur as the result of domestic water use. The most important domestic sources of such exposures are likely to be showering and the use

This study uses gut microbiome data to predict corticosteroid response in patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Fecal samples from 212 patients with ITP are sequenced. Six machine‐learning algorithms are used to train predictive models. The support vector machine‐based model integrated clinical data and selected microbial species, diversities ...

Accessible ecophysiological tools for seabird conservation
Abstract Seabirds are the most endangered avian taxa on Earth, with over a third of species globally threatened. To help slow their decline, conservation physiology seeks to determine how seabird responses to climatic and anthropogenic threats influence demographic processes, but it is not widely utilized in monitoring.

Mass imbalances in EPANET water-quality simulations [PDF]
EPANET is widely employed to simulate water quality in water distribution systems. However, in general, the time-driven simulation approach used to determine concentrations of water-quality constituents provides accurate results only for short water ...

Gut Microbiota‐Butyrate‐PPARγ Axis Modulates Adipose Regulatory T Cell Population
This study identifies the indispensable role of gut microbiota in the maintenance of ST2+ adipose Treg cell population, and defines gut microbiota‐derived butyrate as an endogenous PPARγ agonist, modulating adipose Treg cell populations via promoting PPARγ activation. Butyrate or fiber supplementation restores the VAT ST2+ Treg population in obese mice

Suitability of Natura 2000 sites for threatened freshwater species under projected climate change
Abstract As part of the world's largest coordinated network of protected areas, Natura 2000, European Union member states designate special areas of conservation (SACs) to maintain or achieve favourable conservation status for imperilled aquatic species listed under Annex II of the Habitats Directive.

This study presents a novel polyphenol‐nanozyme‐armored probiotic system (ECA@EcN) for enhanced treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). By integrating chitosan‐modified epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG‐CS) with gold nanozymes, the system effectively scavenges ROS, improves probiotic viability, and restores gut microbiota balance.

A computed tomography‐based survey of paramedullary diverticula in extant Aves
Abstract Avian respiratory systems are comprised of rigid lungs connected to a hierarchically organized network of large, regional air sacs, and small diverticula that branch from them. Paramedullary diverticula are those that rest in contact with the spinal cord, and frequently invade the vertebral canal.
