Taxonomic distinctness indices for discriminating patterns in freshwater rotifer assemblages
Hydrobiologia, 2016Taxonomic distinctness indices measure the taxonomic relatedness among species and have been used for environmental assessment to detect disturbed habitats. This is the first application of the Average Taxonomic Distinctness (Δ+) and Variance in Taxonomic Distinctness (Λ+) indices to the presence/absence data of rotifer communities to examine their ...

Novel Endophytes of Rice form a Taxonomically Distinct Subgroup of Serratia marcescens
Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 2001Six endophytic strains isolated from surface-sterilized rice roots and stems of different rice varieties grown in the Philippines were characterized. They were analyzed by physiological and biochemical tests, SDS-PAGE of whole-cell protein patterns, DNA-DNA hybridization and 16S rDNA sequencing.

Quantifying the effects of nutrient addition on the taxonomic distinctness of serpentine vegetation
Plant Ecology, 2005Traditional diversity indices summarize the information about the relative abundances of species within a community without regard to differences between species. However, intuitively, a community composed of dissimilar taxa is more diverse than a community composed of more similar taxa.

Distinctive neural bones in Dipsochelys giant tortoises: Structural and taxonomic characters
Journal of Morphology, 1999The carapace of turtles consists of characteristic dermal bones (neurals, costal, and pleurals) and epidermal scutes. The variation in neural bone configuration in the Indian Ocean giant tortoise genus Dipsochelys is assessed. Study of 42 specimens supports earlier reports that variation is largely restricted to the anterior and posterior bones.

A Taxonomic Distinction Between Cyllene robiniae (Forst.) and Cyllene caryae Gahan
American Midland Naturalist, 1943Considerable difficulty is usually encountered in distinguishing between the two common Cerambycid beetles, Cyllene robiniae (Forster) and Cyllene caryae Gahan, commonly known as the locust borer and the painted hickory borer, respectively. Biologically, the two species are quite distinct: C.
