Model equations for circular symmetric Taylor-Couette flow are derived in the narrow-gap limit by a mode truncation of the full Navier-Stokes equations. For static Taylor numbers these model equations can be transformed into the Lorenz equations for Rayleigh-B\'enard convection.

Symmetry and Stability in Taylor-Couette Flow
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1986The authors have studied the linear stability of Couette flow between concentric rotating cylinders. The linearized Navier-Stokes equation of 6th order has two zeros and four purely imaginary eigenvalues at a suitable value of the speed of rotation of the outer cylinder.

Instability of Taylor-Couette flow of helium II
Physical Review Letters, 1991The study of Taylor-Couette flow has been useful in understanding classical fluid flows and non-linear phenomena because of its simplicity and its versatility. The Taylor-Couette system promises to be equally useful in understanding the behavior of liquid helium II, a non-classical fluid.

Pinch instabilities in Taylor-Couette flow
Physical Review E, 2006The linear stability of the dissipative Taylor-Couette flow with an azimuthal magnetic field is considered. Unlike ideal flows, the magnetic field is a fixed function of a radius with two parameters only: a ratio of inner to outer cylinder radii, eta, and a ratio of the magnetic field values on outer and inner cylinders, muB.

The cavitating Taylor-Couette flow
Physics of Fluids, 2018This work presents an investigation of a new phenomenon of the Taylor-Couette flow: the onset of Taylor vortices in a cavitating fluid. This particular form of the Taylor-Couette flow develops if the shear flow between a rotating inner and a fixed outer cylinder approaches the critical Taylor number and the vapor pressure of the fluid simultaneously ...

Taylor–Couette flow with buoyancy: Onset of spiral flow
Physics of Fluids, 1997Numerical simulations of the effects of buoyancy on the stability and morphology of Taylor–Couette flow have been conducted. The three-dimensional equations of motion are discretized using a hybrid Chebyshev collocation/Fourier spectral method. The problem geometry consists of an air-filled vertical annulus with radius ratio, η=ri/ro=0.5 (where ri and ...

Velocity field for Taylor–Couette flow with an axial flow
Physics of Fluids, 1999The flow in the gap between an inner rotating cylinder concentric with an outer stationary cylinder with an imposed pressure-driven axial flow was studied experimentally using particle image velocimetry (PIV) in a meridional plane of the annulus. The radius ratio was η=0.83 and the aspect ratio was Γ=47.

The mixing in Taylor-Couette flow was studied with 2D laser-optical methods (Particle Image Velocimetry PIV and Laser Induced Fluorescence LIF). Mixing processes are grouped into three stages (macro-, meso- and micromixing) according to the characteristic length scale of the inhomogeneities under consideration.
